Are you an RVN looking for a new adventure in the new year? Have you been considering a change of pace or fancy trying island life? If so, we have had an exciting and unique opportunity arise for a pro-active, enthusiastic RVN to join our friendly and supportive team here in the Shetland Islands.
Shetland Vets is an independent practice and the only Vets here in the beautiful Shetland Islands. We cover all the inhabited Islands’ Veterinary needs as well as Shetlands mainland. We have 3 branches located in Bixter, Scalloway and Lerwick. Being the only practice and given our island location, we see a wide range of animals from cats to cows and owls to otters, even the odd wallaby!
While our Nursing team mainly deals with small animals, due to our unique location, we have the opportunity to get involved with wildlife, exotic, farm and equine cases too! The caseload is very varied, seeing everything from routine cases to emergencies and critical care. Here at Shetland Vets, we take great pride in ensuring we deliver an exceptional standard of nursing and client care. We have a lovely, supportive, and knowledgeable team and you’ll always find someone willing to lend a hand or offer advice. With a mixture of younger and more experienced staff, there are 3 full time, 2 flexible hours RVNs along with 2 ACAs and our 6 Vets who work a mixture of full time, part time and Maternity cover. Our Receptionists and Admin staff complete our team. All of us have key areas of interest and we do our best to utilise everyone’s individual strengths.
We are RCVS accredited and an RVN training practice (no student currently).
We have been an employee-owned business since 2014, meaning that shares in the company are held by a Trust for the long-term benefit of the employees. We try to encourage all staff to have an input into the way we run the business, and for people to feel they have a stake in it.
The ideal candidate will be proactive and keen to help us continue to build the practice. Have excellent communication and organisational skills, be able to offer a high standard of patient care. Nurse-led consultations and clinics, day-to-day theatre and in-patient care are all important parts of the role.
