This position is for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to work at our Surgical Referral Centre.

We have a fantastic, professional team of RVN's who support each other and work to a very high standard of care.

Due to an expanding workload and maternity leave we are looking for an additional RVN to join this team, personality and a willingness to learn is of more importance to us than previous surgical nursing experience.

We offer excellent training and support for RVN's making the step from first opinion to a surgical referral workplace.

The referral centre has an interesting case load including total hip replacements, fracture repairs and spinal surgery. We are fortunate to have both MRI & CT Scanners on-site, as well as a hydrotherapy treadmill and a visiting veterinary physiotherapist.

Our RVN's are responsible for in-patient care (something we take very seriously), preparing theatres, taking & running blood samples, placing IV Catheters, preparing the patients for theatre, monitoring anaesthesia, assisting the surgeons during consultations and surgery. This is a true nursing position.

Full time position:

4 days per week working 8am – 6.30pm with a lunch break, 1 Weekend in 4 on-call. Call outs are paid in addition to basic salary.

Some overnight stays are required and are also paid in addition to the basic salary.

Bank Holiday on-call and overnight stays are arranged fairly between all the RVN's.

CPD is funded, RCVS annual fees are paid.

Glenn and I became firm friends whilst studying at the Dick Vet and decided to set up Apex Vets from the ground up in 2010. We did this because we wanted a really great place to work to take us through to retirement, and we wanted to be able to treat and diagnose patients to the absolute best of our ability. We started with 1 in 2 on call, one RVN (the “Head Nurse”!) and two receptionists. The practice has organically grown since, and we now have a team of 30.

We are a determinedly independent practice, we focus on keeping our team happy, and we highly value everyone’s work life balance. We all enjoy our jobs and get home on time after a day’s work. The whole team has a patient first ethos, we enjoy pushing our already high clinical standards and don't work to any targets or KPIs, instead our target is healthy patients and happy clients.

Chloe started with us as a student and is now our Head Nurse, leading our team of 8 highly skilled nurses and 6 animal care assistants. We fully support continued development, Fiona and Milena have an ISFM Feline Nursing certificate and Gemma has her ECC certificate. Jack is currently doing his Exotic certificate, Annie is doing her surgical nursing certificate and Gemma is doing her anaesthesia certificate.

Job satisfaction is a huge priority of ours and we like our nurses to use their skills to their full potential. The owners also embrace flexible working and we get home on time wherever possible. You will have regular nurse clinics, lead our anaesthetic inductions and maintenance, perform radiography, dental scale and polish, and undertake schedule 3 procedures.

Although we have our own OOHs, we have taken on 5 ACAs to fill our nightshift role, providing in-patient care and being on hand to help the vets when needed. This means that as an RVN you will only be called in when your nursing skills are really required. We also offer an enhanced pay rate from the minute you leave your house until you return, plus a bonus of £40 for each call out. This change in structure has meant that our RVNs are normally only called in for the exciting cases, and on average this is only one call a month, amongst the whole nursing team. Our RVN on call rota is 1:8 and these include your normal Saturdays.

We have a very supportive vet and nurse team who are always available for case discussions and backup. We have monthly nurse meetings, along with clinical meetings for case discussions and we regularly provide in-house CPD. We have a forward-thinking attitude and are always looking for ways to develop and evolve. We would love you to get involved in the focus groups we have set up to look at key areas of practice development; our current focus groups are clinical standards, Fear Free, arthritis, Staff Wellbeing and our digital journey.

We enjoy whole practice (and usually partners) team building events throughout the year.
Last year we all enjoyed a team building event, spending a day at Blair-Drummond Safari Park (together with 6 young kids who came with various team members).
Each year since we opened, we have run a very successful community fun day and open day. We usually get 800-1000 people attending and always raise in excess of £1000 for charities handpicked by the team. The open day after party is renowned amongst the team and all the family and friends who help us on the day are welcomed for some food, the bar, and Doug being the DJ for the night.

The practice is in a Central Scotland location with Ochils nearby, yet with easy access to Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Come and work at our small independent small animal practice 1-3 days a week and 1 in 3 Saturdays am only , no out of hours shifts. Weekday shifts range from 8:30am-4:30pm or 9:30am-7pm. There may be additional shifts to cover holidays. Work in a small team of 2 vets and 2 other RVN and receptionists. Your opinion will be heard. The available position

We are looking for a permanent RVN with full time hours available.

Shifts patterns would be Monday/Tuesday/Thursday 9am – 6pm and Wednesday/Friday would be alternating each week of 9am – 5:30pm then 9am – 6:30pm the followings week. This shift pattern would be 39 hours one week and 41 hours the following week. Each shift has one-hour unpaid lunch break. We are flexible with shift patterns if the candidate is looking for shorter hours.

The role is surgery/medical nursing with some nurse consultations. There are cleaning aspects to the role to ensure it is a clean practice environment.

Ideal candidate will be a UK RVN with at least one-year qualified, paid work experience. We will consider overseas qualified veterinary nurses if they have the intention of sitting their OSCEs to become registered.

Salary (no accommodation): £30,000 – 32,000 FTE

Salary (using accommodation): £28,000 – 30,000 FTE

Accommodation is available. If you wish to use the accommodation, then you will be responsible for being on call 1 week on then 1 week off. Monday-Friday only. On call is checking in-patients at 8pm and 10pm. It is not very common that we have in-patients, however, we can have patients admitted up until 6pm so you do need to be available on your weeks on. The pet owner is made aware that the checks are only at 8pm and 10pm. If the vet feels the patient requires hospitalisation at a 24-hour practice, we will refer the patient before 6pm.

You would be entitled to 20 days annual leave, plus bank holidays (pro rata) and CPD allowance.

Would be great if you were, but it is not essential, part of the weekend rota doing 1 Saturday a month which is 9am-1:30pm. This shift can be taken as extra pay or time in lieu.

About us

We are a small animal, independent practice in SW London. We are a hard-working and friendly team consisting of three vets and two RVNs (you would make it three RVNs), one SQP and three VCAs nurse/support staff. Fully equipped practice with-in house MiLab blood machines, IV fluid pumps, digital radiographs, dental radiographs, and ultrasound. We do see some exotics (rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, ferrets) but experience in this area is not essential.

Our usual day

One vet consults all day and the other does a mixture of consults and surgery. We typically have three to four procedures/surgeries booked each day. Two RVNs look after the surgery and medical patients, one support staff on reception and one support staff in the office answering phone calls/dealing with emails.

About The Role

The Canine Healthcare Administrator is responsible for working with Veterinary Practices across the country to ensure the charities working dogs’ health records are comprehensive and up to date. The Role:

Part -time -3 days per week (job share) average of 23hrs per week
6 week rolling rota including a week of 3 x night shifts and NO WEEKENDS
Role will mainly be based in Abergavenny, however, will also require some cover in our other branches of Tredegar, Brecon and Monmouth.

With excellent facilities and a fantastic team, you will be utilizing your nursing skills to promote high standards of clinical and client care alongside a supportive team. Confidence in assisting with routine operations, diagnostic imaging and nurse consultations is desired. Personal development is supported and encouraged. Previous sole charge nursing experience is an advantage, but not essential as training and support will be given.

The Rota:

You will take part in a rolling 6-week rota, working 3 days per week (Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday) consisting of:

1 week theatre (0830-1730)
1 week kennels (0800-1700)
1 week procedures (1000-1900)
1 week consulting (0900-1830)
1 week nights – inpatients only (1800-0830)
1 week off

Our OOH is outsourced, but we keep our own inpatients from Monday 9am – Saturday 6pm to ensure continuity of care for our patients.
