This role involves working as part of a team of nurses and veterinary care assistants caring for our inpatients in wards both pre and post operatively providing the highest standard of care and attention. You should be a dynamic individual with high attention to detail and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment as part of a team.

We have a 12-week induction training scheme where all new nurses are trained by a nursing mentor. Ongoing support is provided via quarterly one to one meetings and a yearly appraisal. The nursing structure and encouragement for extra learning and CPD allows nurses to grow and develop their career in different directions.

We have 2 positions available, one is a full-time role working a 40 hour week with the choice of a 5-day week working 8 hour shifts or a 4-day week working 10-hour shifts. The other position is a part-time role, working 3 days a week for either 8 or 10 hour shifts. Both roles will be on a rotating early/late shift pattern alongside a 1 in 4 weekend rota and some bank holidays as part of a bank holiday rota.

We offer a pay scale based on post qualification years experience, RCVS registration, funded CPD, a company pension scheme, life assurance and an employee assistance programme.

The Role

Pet Blood Bank are recruiting for Veterinary Nurses (Phlebotomists) and Donor Assistants to work across multiple regions of the UK. As part of the collection team, these roles involve working at donation sessions where lifesaving blood is collected from dogs. As a phlebotomist, you are responsible for performing blood collections from our canine donors, whilst working alongside the supervising Veterinary Surgeon and Donor Assistants. As a Donor Assistant, you are responsible for helping to run the session, including holding our donors while they give blood, tidying and resetting the donation room for the next donor, running blood tests, assisting with paperwork and ultimately making sure the donors have an enjoyable time. Both role's are key to ensuring successful donation sessions and providing a positive experience for all our donors and their owners.

Launched in 2007, Pet Blood Bank UK is the only charity that provides a blood bank service for all vets across the UK. As part of our charitable remit, our aim is to advance animal health and welfare and to relieve suffering by providing quick and convenient access to blood. Every unit of blood helps save up to four other lives, saving thousands of lives every year.

In return, we offer full training and a great team working environment. The rate of pay is £14.20/hour for phlebotomists and £12.00/hour for donor assistants. For both roles, a mileage allowance of 35p/mile is offered for travel to and from venues. 

Further details

The London Vet Clinic is an independent, long-established, 3 GP vet clinic in the heart of London. As well as providing first opinion care we offer on-site internal medicine, behaviour and ophthalmology diagnostics and treatments. We are looking for an experienced, bright, affable RVN to join us.

Who we are and what we do

Five vets share GP diagnostics and treatments, with usually three on the premises.

Three RVNs, three Receptionists and the clinic’s Manager (an RVN) complete the on-site team.

Off site, an RVN and VN answer emails and the telephone, arrange travel documents, handle insurance claims and communicate with clients.

As well as first opinion diagnostics, Grant Petrie (Internal Medicine), David Williams (Ophthalmology) and Natalia Bewick (Clinical Behaviour) are on site providing their skills.

Orthopaedic and laparascopic needs are met by visiting vets. We aim to return pets to their own homes the same day whenever possible.

Our primary out of hours provider is Veteris. Our primary referral hospital is The Ralph.

Our facilities

Our on-site lab facilities are provided by Idexx and we use Idexx’s Ezyvet software for our client, patient and financial records.

We have DR x-ray, dental x-ray, ultrasonography, slit lamp biomicroscopy, full screen microscope and endoscopy. There are separate dog and cat day kennels, separate surgical and dental rooms, a large prep area and a dedicated staff area with its own kitchen, office and toilet. There are five exam rooms and three separate reception areas.

REGISTERED VETERINARY NURSE RESPONSIBILITIES

RVNs provide support in examinations, diagnostics and surgery, nurses clinics and ‘front of house’. You help to ensure that our respected level of veterinary nursing is maintained and improved.

General nursing including dental procedures

Reception rota, working with the Clinic Receptionists

Assist with visiting vet students and new staff
Make suggestions for improving what we do and participate in CPD

The Package

Salary starts at £34,000 PA depending upon your skills and post graduate qualifications.
Choice of a four or five day week.

No OOH.
CPD is encouraged and flexible. £500 basic CPD allowance and 3 paid CPD days. Certificates considered and encouraged.

10 days annual leave if staying for 6 months only, plus bank holidays (pro rata) and CPD allowance. If staying longer than 6 months annual leave is 20 days per year.

About us

We are a small animal, independent practice in SW London. We are a hard-working and friendly team consisting of three vets and three RVNs (you would be covering the third RVN), one SQP and three VCAs nurse/support staff. Fully equipped practice with-in house MiLab blood machines, IV fluid pumps, digital radiographs, dental radiographs and ultrasound. We do see some exotics (rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, ferrets) but experience in this area is not essential.

Our usual day

One vet consults all day and the other does a mixture of consults and surgery. On a normal day, we have three to four procedures/surgeries booked each day. Two RVNs look after the surgery and medical patients, one support staff on reception and one support staff in the office answering phone calls/dealing with emails.

TREATING PETS AS ONE OF THE FAMILY

Our lovely independent practice in Coventry is seeking an RVN or experienced SVN (registered with RCVS), to complement our existing team. Working at our main site, we have separate cat and dog waiting areas and hospitalisation wards, 3 theatres including a dedicated feline theatre, nurse and feline consulting rooms, a laboratory, separate x-ray and ultrasound rooms, and a dental room with x-ray.

We were crowned Flexible Small Business of the Year for a reason, and are happy to discuss what you need or desire; full-time, part-time, or anything in-between! No OOH (we use Willows or Vets Now) and our daytime weekends are worked on a rota.

We hold Gold Cat Friendly, Silver Rabbit Friendly, VNTP, RCVS accredited status and are excited to be working on the Dog Friendly Clinic scheme.

We are a close, supportive, independent practice that recognises the vital role nurses play and encourages their development, including regular 1 to 1s and monthly team meetings, where we put patient and client care at the forefront of our decisions, and welcome everyone’s ideas. Lunch and learns are also held regularly, and we provide plenty of opportunity to pursue interests, with fully-funded CPD.

Full-time salary for qualified nurses is £29-35k, depending on experience, skills and responsibilities undertaken, plus annual bonus based on practice performance. Workplace pension, enhanced maternity pay, health cash plan membership, paid volunteering day and cost price treatment for up to 3 pets.

You’ll be working alongside 4 RVNs rotating through theatre, inpatient care and nurse consult duties. We are a training practice and pride ourselves on growing future talent, so part of your role will be to help support our student nurses on their placements. We have a team of Receptionists who work out front, so you are freed up to carry out your nursing role fully and we will encourage and support clinical interests you may have.

Ideally this role is a full-time position however we understand that might not be suitable for everyone so if you are looking for flexible or part-time hours please do get in touch, we’re always happy to have a chat and discuss options. Saturdays are on a 1 in 4 rota basis, to keep it fair for everyone.

The practice is purpose-built and located inside a busy Pets At Home store in the south side of Glasgow, close to a great selection of local amenities and well-placed for transport links into the city. Our surgery is equipped with theatre, digital x-ray, ultrasound and laboratory facilities, as well as 3 consulting rooms and separate dog, cat and isolation wards. Take a tour here to see more!
