ABOUT US

Scottish Vet Referrals (SVR) is a dedicated veterinary referral centre located in the beautiful surroundings of the Inverness Campus.

We are the only independent referral practice in the North of Scotland, owned by the partners.

We currently provide cardiorespiratory, CT scanning, dermatology, eye testing, internal medicine and oncology, ophthalmology and orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery services; delivering dedicated expertise with state of the art specialist equipment in a custom-designed facility.

For the future, our desire is to augment our team with veterinary surgeons who are experts in other areas of veterinary medicine. The facility has been designed to accommodate this expansion in service and expertise.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Full time (40 hours per week)

Working hours between 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Out of hours/weekend duties are infrequent and shared.

RCVS fees paid.

Generous CPD budget.

Salary commensurate with experience.

RESPONSIBILITY

Working alongside an experienced Veterinary Nursing Team within SVR, the candidate will be expected to maintain registration with Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, be familiar with the legislation affecting the Practice of Veterinary Medicine within the UK and with the ethics of Practice as outlined in the RCVS Guide to Professional Conduct.

The successful candidate will be involved in all disciplines and use their breadth of nursing skills. There will also be opportunity for enhanced responsibility in both clinical and non-clinical areas.

MAIN DUTIES*

To ensure that all our patients’ needs are met to the highest possible standards of clinical care as set out in SVR’s SOP’s.
Ensure timely and effective communication with all colleagues working within SVR regarding patient care and referrals.
Provide excellent levels of nursing care within SVR across all disciplines.
Work under the RCVS Guide to Professional Conduct as set out for RVN’s.
Carry out in house diagnostics as directed by clinicians.
Assist with out of hours work including overnight hospitalisation of patients.
Ensure clinical areas are kept well stocked and report re-ordering requirements to designated person as soon as possible.
Liaise with owners and referring practices to keep them informed of patient progress as directed by the treating clinicians.
Uphold a respectful, collaborative, collegial, effective and supportive working relationship with all colleagues within SVR to foster excellent teamwork, provide excellent customer service and patient care.
Provide support and training to student nurses, vets or other visitors to SVR as required.
Ensure all SOP’s are up to date.
Maintain cleanliness inside the building to uphold biosecurity.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES*

Day to day answering emails/mail and phone queries.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Candidates should be a minimum of one year qualified. Experience in referral practice preferred but not essential as training will be provided.

We are looking for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse to take on the role of Veterinary Nurse/Hospital Manager at Monkey World. This is a full-time position, with over-time to be expected when required. We would also be happy to consider Veterinarians who are interested in wildlife/primate management.

Monkey World is fortunate to have a well-equipped veterinary hospital on-site with a surgical operating theatre, a comprehensive range of anaesthesia to suit the requirements of all the primates in the park and diagnostic facilities, including state of the art digital radiography and a laboratory. This permits us to investigate and treat a range of medical conditions should they arise, without the stress of having to move the patient to an external facility.

Apart from on scheduled procedure days (where a veterinarian is in attendance), you will be the only member of the veterinary team on-site and will be required to regularly liaise with off-site veterinarians to facilitate prescriptions and treatment of the park’s primates. You will also be working closely with our dedicated team of Primate Care Staff, under the direction of the park Director and Animal Director. As the sole member of our on-site veterinary team, you will be responsible for ensuring that the 250+ primates at the park receive the very best veterinary care as and when required, as well for the day-to-day smooth running of our on-site hospital.

Due to the number of different species at the park, and because the majority of our primates are rescued from poor circumstances, you will find this to be a varied and challenging role; no two days are ever the same. The ideal candidate will have a flexible, friendly attitude combined with dedication and commitment to providing the very highest standard of animal welfare and care.

Duties include

Meeting and consulting with the park Director, Animal Director, off-site vets and Primate Care Staff to discuss treatments, medication and any issues or concerns with regards to our rescued monkeys and apes.
Daily rounds to check on primates receiving treatment, as well as assessing primates for any new injury/illnesses and discussing progress with Primate Care Staff.
Liaising with off-site veterinarians to prescribe/arrange treatment for primates. Dispensing and delivering medication to animal houses, to include the recording of all dispensed medication.
Examining in-house laboratory samples, such as faecal samples for parasitology (experience in microscopy/testing of faecal samples would be highly advantageous). As well as preparing and packaging laboratory samples for submission to external laboratories.
Training Primate Care Staff to assist with faecal screening to cover your days off/holidays.
Keeping accurate records of treatment/medication and progress of primates to include updating Tracks and paper hard copies. Including monitoring primate medical sheets, primate weights and entering them into Tracks system, reporting any concerns.
Responsible for ordering of equipment, pharmaceuticals, and consumables, and ensure stock-taking procedures are well maintained. Ensuring the day to day running of the hospital, that equipment is maintained and serviced as required, and that the facilities are kept clean and tidy. Sorting donated hospital supplies and disposing of excess/unwanted stock.
Assist and maintain anaesthesia for surgical and non-surgical procedures alongside the veterinarian. Carry out x-rays when required using on-site digital x-ray.
Assisting primate care staff with annual Flu vaccinations.
Joining in with Primate Care Staff husbandry routines, if there are days that it fits into your schedule, to have a better understanding of our rescued monkeys and apes as well as their husbandry routines.

What we’re looking for:

You’ll have an accredited Veterinary Nursing Certificate or degree and are a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN).
The ability to work individually, as well as part of a multidisciplinary team to facilitate the highest standards of veterinary care and animal welfare.
Demonstrate good organisational and time management skills. As well as effective communicational skills.
The ability to undertake basic laboratory procedures in-house, such as faecal sample examination.
Have experience with current anaesthetic and surgical techniques.
A full driving license.
Previous experience working with primates, zoo species or wildlife would be advantageous.

Role Overview

The Anaesthesia-Focused RVN will work collaboratively with the Head of Nursing Services (HoNS), Lead Nurses, Clinical Director and Clinicians across the hospital to ensure the efficient delivery of outstanding patient care within the anaesthesia & analgesia service. Your responsibilities will include the provision of high standards of patient care, preparation for anaesthetic procedures, monitoring of sedation, general anaesthesia and recovery, the handling, maintenance & care of equipment, central and arterial line placement, wards nursing and care, surgical nursing support, accurate record keeping & effective communication and teamwork. Key Responsibilities

Provide of a high and sustainable quality of patient care, primarily within the anaesthesia & analgesia service.

Demonstrate an excellent work ethic and capability in all nursing duties, including a high level of hygiene and the ability to recognise and undertake relevant actions with regards to infection control.

Ensure the comfort and safety of patients undergoing investigations and surgery.

Take part in team reflections of incidents and near misses, to continually improve our patient care and safety, including Halo reporting.

We are a host practice for Vets Now Emergency who provide our out of hours care. This ensures constant 24 hour care of our inpatients at our hospital, while we sleep at night. Getting to know us

Lime Trees Veterinary Hospital is a first opinion and referral centre. Referral patients are seen at both the cat clinic and the hospital. Both clinics have separate theatres and prep, digital xray, dental theatre (including dental x-ray), separate species-specific wards and isolation, brand new K laser for both therapeutic treatments & surgery, multiparameter machines for patient monitoring, and a variety of endoscopes, CT and a Cryopen. Laparoscopic surgery is also performed at our hospital. Our team love to ultrasound scan and help teaching new scanning skills and techniques to colleagues. We have a teaching environment of vet students, and student nurses. The Hospital has 24-hour inpatient care. The team have a wealth of support with colleagues at many different stages of development. Some newly qualified vets and nurses with all their new taught knowledge and skills, up to referral medics and diploma holding nurses to help. We encourage our nurses with schedule 3 work in terms of nerve blocks, stich ups, tail amputations, etc with nurses being fully supported to learn these skills. Stoke-on-trent is 20mins from Alton towers, but also enjoys the benefit of multiple countryside areas for walking and exploring (e.g., peak district) within easy reach. Towns and cities are also a short travel/train ride away.

vets: 14 (1 vet ECC certificate and small animal surgery, 3 vets in internal medicine, 1 in feline medicine,) Nurses: 12 (1 RVN has a diploma in anaesthesia and analgesia, and another 2 of our RVNs boast certificates in ECC and medical nursing, as well as (x2 SVNs). Client Care Team: 11 (3x VCA's) and (2x Dispensary technicians). We are looking for an enthusiastic nurse to join our team to mainly work at our hospital, with some shifts at our dedicated cat only clinic. Veterinary Nurse assistant or Veterinary Receptionist with animal handling experience required for busy, small animal veterinary surgery in Wolverhampton/South Staffs.
Computer literacy skills along with excellent customer service is a must.
The position is initially for 12 months, approximately 24 hours per week.
Qualification not necessary however experience would be preferred.

Develop your career. The Well Pet Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Nurse to join our purpose-built small animal hospital in Sligo.

The Role

Full-time, Permanent position

4 day work week (40 hours per week)

Some Saturday shifts from time to time

No OOH, Sundays or Bank Holidays

Salary €30,000-€35,360 commensurate with experience level

Clinical role with duties including; anaesthetic/analgesic monitoring, surgery rotation, nurse consultations, emergency triaging, in patient management.

22 days annual leave (subject to pro rata)

VCI registered veterinary nurse

Experience in anaesthetic monitoring required

Must be able to function independently and as part of a team

Passionate about furthering your own nursing career through CPD and certificates

Uphold and contribute to a high standard of patient care

Ability to multitask efficiently during busier clinic days alongside the rest of the veterinary team

The Well Pet Hospital is a 100% small animal practice located in Sligo. Located between Lough Gill and the beautiful coastal town of Sligo, famed for its heritage history, local community and festivals. The Well Pet Hospital was established in July 2016 as a friendly, modern clinic where patient care is our number one priority. Our practice is bright and spacious, giving a nice environment to work effectively and comfortably as part of a larger team. Our expert team is made up of 6 Veterinary Surgeons, 4 Veterinary Nurses, and 4 support staff (3 of whom are RVN’s themselves). We are a close-knit, professional team with some of our team holding certificates in Dermatology, Small Animal Medicine, and AVECC Advanced Life Support. We have a strong emphasis on work-life balance, and employee wellbeing. We provide sponsorship and funding to local GAA teams, organizations and a local agricultural show.
