REPORTING TO:  Patient Flow Coordinator, Head of Nursing Services

START DATE: Summer/ Autumn 2026

SALARY: From £32,000 - £36,500 DOE

An exciting opportunity has opened at London Vet Specialists for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join the Patient Flow team in our multi-disciplinary referral hospital in Hammersmith. The role will work closely with our Patient Flow Coordinator RVN to triage emergency referrals and optimise our patient workflow, providing a unique opportunity to diversify your veterinary nursing career. The ideal candidate will have experience within a referral hospital.

 Role Overview

The Patient Flow RVN will be responsible for working collaboratively with the Patient Flow Coordinator, Head of Nursing Services (HoNS), Client Care Team Leader and teams across the hospital to deliver an optimal patient flow through all services.

Your responsibilities will include the triage and acceptance of emergency referrals and admission of patients through our workflow channel for investigations and procedures. You will also assist with keeping accurate hospitalisation records in the SmartFlow patient management system to ensure our inpatients are appropriately managed during their hospitalisation from point of admission.

This is primarily a non-clinical nursing role, though there will be rotations through our clinical services on induction for understanding of our hospital flow process, with occasional expectation to perform basic clinical nursing duties should assistance be required. The role is suited to a Registered Veterinary Nurse seeking a dynamic but primarily non-clinical nursing role within a multi-disciplinary referral hospital, where previous referral experience is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accept emergency referral calls for telephone triage to obtain case information in discussion with our referring vet practice colleagues to assess suitability for acceptance in line with our emergency acceptance processes.
  • Process patients being admitted to the hospital, including ID confirmation and labelling, belongings labelling, admission to Animana practice management system, SmartFlow inpatient management system template set-up, Brucella Canis policy compliance and teamwide communication regarding infectious patients of zoonotic risk.
  • Liaise with the Patient Flow Coordinator for patients admitted requiring procedure(s) for efficient scheduling across all services.
  • Provide or assist with patient triage on arrival to the hospital for direction to the clinical team/ ICU as appropriate or suitability to wait for scheduled clinician appointment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide a high standard of hospital hygiene, to include cleaning and disinfection in all areas.
  • Assist in consultations on request, in the form of patient restraint, direction of patient samples to the lab for processing and consult room stock & hygiene maintenance.
  • Assist with basic nursing tasks in support of our clinical team and patient care standards on an occasional basis.
