The Role

Crown Vets have a unique opportunity for a registered veterinary nurse looking to progress in their career. In the role of Deputy Head RVN, you will assist the Head RVN in leading the nursing team which consists of 11 RVN’s, 3 VCA’s, 2 SVN’s and a Dispensary Assistant. In your transition into leadership, you will be fully supported, and full training will be provided. Summary of the role

  • 40hours a week
  • Salary of up to £28,000 depending on experience 
  • Out of hours work on a rota basis (1 night every 2 weeks)
  • Working with the Head nurse to lead the nursing and auxiliary team
  • Assist the head nurse in aspects of the nursing and auxiliary team’s management to include, but not be limited to: recruitment, performance management, appraisal and absence management in line with Company policy.
  • To act as a role model to all clinical staff, demonstrating a clinical lead and suitable leadership skills.
  • Working with the client service team to ensure a high-level customer service is instilled in all members of the nursing and auxiliary teams.
  • Assist the head nurse in ensuring compliance with risk assurance processes including; health and safety; security; clinical governance, Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) guidelines, and data protection
  • Assist with infection prevention and control
  • Ensure completion of CPD log / on line tracker in accordance with RCVS requirement
  • Liaise with head nurse
  • Carry out clinical duties such as, anaesthesia, radiography, laboratory work and nurse clinics
  • Clinical coaching and organising of students are desired and to be managed between head nurse and deputy head nurse. Crown Vets are happy to put you though clinical coaching training
  • A strong desire to keep evolving and improving the clinical standards

Applicant Requirements

Must be a qualified RVN on the RCVS register and have experience either within a 1st opinion or referral setting or both. Must be confident in sole charge and have the ability to offer a progressive forward thinking management style. This role would be ideal for an RVN looking to potentially move into their first management role.
