Job Description

The Head of Wards is ultimately responsible for the Wards Department at SCVS which includes a team of 10 wards specific nurses working across 2 dog wards, a separate cat ward and an ICU. Aspects of the role include nursing management, nursing care, administrative tasks, health and safety, teaching and training. You will provide a high standard of nursing care to all patients within this multidisciplinary referral hospital and contribute to the training, supervision and development of veterinary nurses, interns, student veterinary nurses and veterinary care assistants. This includes the day to day running of wards department and organisation of staff at clinical level.

We are a multidisciplinary referral centre based in Ringwood, Hampshire, offering a wide range of specialist services. We have recognised specialists in the fields of anaesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, internal medicine, oncology, neurology, orthopaedics, diagnostic imaging, spinal surgery, soft tissue surgery and an animal physiotherapy team. At SCVS, we have the most advanced facilities, which you will not find in ordinary veterinary practices. This enables our specialists to offer the highest standard of veterinary care from admission through to discharge.

Applicants must be a Qualified Veterinary Nurse with current RCVS registration. Previous experience of managing a team in either a senior or Head Nurse Capacity and experience of wards nursing at referral level is also required for this role. Qualifications listed below would be an advantage:
• Diploma in Advanced Nursing and/or Higher Degree
• VTS in ECC
