Job Description

Job title: Canine Healthcare Advisor
Location: Hybrid - The Grange
Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Salary: £23,000 - £25,500 per annum

About the role

This job has a vital role in delivering dogs in optimum health to support in the creation if thriving hearing dog partnerships. This is something no other charity can create and so our work in canine healthcare is crucial. This role is vital in delivering our mission of helping people live well with hearing loss and focuses on how we monitor and support the healthcare and wellbeing of dogs through their lifetime with the charity.


Key Activities:

  • Responsible for achieving balance between physical, emotional and cognitive health of dogs in training
  • Responsible for routine and preventative healthcare of dogs in training

  • Responsible for dog health case management and weight control, supporting volunteers as required

  • Perform with confidence canine first aid, minor health procedures, nail clipping, anal gland expression, tick removal etc.

  • Regular in person visits to training hubs and puppy classes etc., providing in person support. This may require overnight stays

  • Responsible for reviewing the health of dogs during training milestone stages

  • Responsible for dog health during placement with a client, until sign over to a Canine Healthcare Consultant

  • Responsible for the delivery of a successful education programme for volunteers

  • Assist with veterinary visits (on-site and off-site) provide relevant information to the veterinary surgeon and distribute information effectively

  • Carry out a professional standard of grooming and clipping

  • Accurately record relevant information on Hearing Dogs internal database

About you

  • Always acts with professionalism, showing respect, reliability and accountability
  • Demonstrates excellent time management, a self-starter using time efficiently to achieve goals and responsibilities
  • Demonstrates a strong and clear communication style, adaptable and excellent approach according to audience and goals 
  • Demonstratable ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Veterinary nursing/dog behaviour qualification is desirable
  • Knowledge of up-to-date canine training practices 
  • Demonstratable knowledge of a holistic view of canine behaviour and health
  • Ability to assess and profile the needs of our audience to provide with the right practical and emotional support, working with vulnerable clients or animals requires a compassionate approach 
  • Track record of successful cross team collaboration 
  • Strong deaf awareness communication skills
  • Experience of working with volunteers including the ability to adopt a flexible coaching style to promote education and engagement 
  • Excellent administration skills, understands the need for, and delivers, accurate and timely record keeping
