The merger brings together Improve International’s global reach and postgraduate qualification programmes with Central CPD’s practitioner-led Continuing Professional Development training and digital learning infrastructure.
Improve says the merger will better position the two companies to meet the growing and evolving needs of the profession.
However, the veterinary training marketplace has been hit recently by news that IVC Evidensia has opened two in-house training centres, one in Scotland and one in the Midlands, perhaps precipitating some consolidation, especially since IVC has announced plans to offer CPD to the wider profession later this year.

The programme, which starts in May 2024 in Swindon, combines online and face-to-face modules.
Subjects covered include radiology principles, radiographic positioning, contrast techniques, interventional radiology, ultrasonography, Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS), Computed Tomography (CT), and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

The Scholarship was set up to continue the legacy of Louise O’Dwyer who passed away in 2018.
Louise worked tirelessly in ECC, spoke at several events to help other veterinary professionals around the globe and she worked as a speaker for Improve Veterinary Education to educate other vet nurses.
This year, the scholarship received over 30 entries across the UK.

Louise O’Dwyer (pictured right) was a highly respected veterinary nurse who dedicated her expertise to developing ECC medicine and teaching others.
She spoke at many congresses across the globe and for a while was a speaker for Improve Veterinary Education before she died in 2019.

In 2023, mini modular programmes will also be released to help delegates accumulate more points.
Once enough points have been reached, delegates are awarded the ultimate qualification: an ISVPS Lead Veterinary Nurse Practitioner.
Improve says My Veterinary Career has been launched to tackle the growing problem of career dissatisfaction amongst veterinary professionals.
A 2019 survey of the veterinary profession by the ies reported that 55.2% of vets said they did not feel rewarded/valued in the profession1.
Additionally, the FVE Survey of the veterinary profession in Europe claimed that in the UK, 40% of vets and nurses wished to leave the industry.

The new course can lead to a Nurse Certificate (NCert), Veterinary Technician (VTCert) or Veterinary Paraprofessional Certificate (VPPCert) from the International School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies (ISVPS).
The programme will start in July 2022 and comprises eight modules covering key topics in medical nursing, including anaesthesia, analgesia, imaging, oncology and medical pharmacology, delivered every other month, spread over a 12–18-month period.
Each module consists of four sessions delivered over one month.
Sessions comprise separate lessons for learners to work through at a pace to suit them.
The fourth week of the month then provides reflective sessions.

The new course offers training for veterinary nurses with an interest in this area, and the opportunity to achieve a Nurse Certificate (NCert), Veterinary Technician (VTCert) or Veterinary Paraprofessional Certficate (VPPCert) from the International School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies (ISVPS).
The programme will start on 1 April 2022 and comprises eight modules delivered over 15 months, with one module released every other month.
Each module contains six lessons and two reflective studies for delegates to work through at their own pace.
During the fourth week of the month, reflective sessions are provided.
Additional training in study skills and revision materials are offered during the months between modules.

The two-day ‘Save A Life Today’ (SALT) courses are being run in partnership with the Reassessment Campaign on Veterinary Resuscitation (RECOVER).
Vets and nurses are encouraged to attend together, as well as individually, so that they can go back to practice and share their learning as a team.
On day one, delegates will cover the practical aspects of resuscitation.
The second day will be focused on effective leadership during and after CPR and the critical care of patients that survive CPR, with an emphasis on techniques used in general practice.

Louise O’Dwyer was a highly respected and awarded ECC veterinary nurse, who was passionate about ECC and an inspiration to her colleagues. She lectured not only on Improve International’s NCert ECC programme, but also on its other nursing courses and at congresses around the world. She died in 2019.

Veterinary nurses, veterinary technicians and certain veterinary paraprofessionals around the world will soon be able to enrol for the first Distance Learning Veterinary Nurse (NCert)/ Veterinary Technician (VTCert)/Veterinary Paraprofessional (VPP) programmes.
The NCert, VTCert and VPP are due to launch in March 2021.
They each consist of eight modules, delivered using interactive online learning techniques. Delegates are guided through each module by a module tutor, while a discussion forum offers them the opportunity to share experiences and ideas with colleagues from around the world. Training in study skills and reflective practice is built into the programme to ensure that a holistic approach is taken to the learning experience.

Backed by RJD Partners, the directors bought the company back from Benchmark Plc for a reported £12.75M after it decided to divest itself of all non-aquaculture-related assets.

The new NCert Dent, which is accredited by ESVPS, comprises six modules led by specialists Dr Gerhard Putter, Dr Richard Saunders and Dr Rachel Perry. Topics have been selected to support veterinary nurses in helping to develop dentistry within their practice and include canine and feline dental anatomy and function; canine and feline dental conditions and the canine and feline dental procedure.

Improve International has launched a new Nurses' Certificate in Small Animal Nutrition designed to help nurses with an interest in nutrition to increase the depth and range of their knowledge.

Improve International has launched a new course for veterinary receptionists to achieve the nationally accredited Edexcel QCF Level 2 Certificate in Customer Service, but with the assessment tailored specifically to demonstrate excellence in veterinary client care.
Veterinary receptionists may be able to benefit from government funding to enable them to study for the qualification, which Improve says can be delivered either at its HQ in Swindon or in practice.
Government funding is available for students of the Certificate in Customer Service without an existing Level 2 qualification in another subject. Requests also depend on the age of the learner and will be assessed on an individual basis by Improve's local Edexcel accredited centre in Swindon.
The 30 hour course features three core units, assessed by a one hour online test:

Veterinary training provider Improve International has opened training facilities at its new European head office, near Swindon.
The company says its relocation to Alexandra House Conference Centre is a strategic move, allowing it to offer residential courses, new programmes and extended courses, as it challenges the industry to re-think its approach to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and postgraduate qualifications.
Nick Fowler, General Manager of Improve International said: "As a training company founded by vets for vets, we want to harness the passion and experience which can be found throughout the profession and nurture a desire for lifelong learning.
"Training shouldn't become a CPD 'tickbox' that's cumbersome to fit around practice commitments. That's why we have moved towards a far more flexible modular programme, where we can design a personal development plan around an individual's career aspirations - whether they are vets in general practice, vets with special interests, a veterinary nurse, or a practice manager.
"Having the very best facilities in which to train is integral to this plan, so having outgrown our centre in Cricklade, we were keen to find new premises which would meet all our needs.
