KEY NOTES

It is important to learn the order in which blood passes throughout the body. This is summarised below:

Deoxygenated blood returning from the body to the heart enters the RIGHT ATRIUM.
It is then pumped through the RIGHT VENTRICLE.
It then enters the pulmonary circulation via the PULMONARY ARTERY.
Next it is oxygenated in the LUNGS.
Now it enters the PULMONARY VEIN.
The pulmonary vein takes it to the LEFT ATRIUM.
It is then pumped through the LEFT VENTRICLE.
Blood then enters the systemic circulation via the AORTA.
Blood returns to the right atrium via the veins which culminate in the ANTERIOR AND POSTERIOR VENA CAVAE.
The sequence is repeated.
