We had a rat in for a very large lump removal from its right groin/lower abdomen. This has left a large wound to heal. We have placed intradermal sutures and glue as the rat is a known chewer. Any ideas for preventing wound trauma?

I was wondering if within the community there are any other Farm Animal RVN's? I work solely in Large Animal practice and would be keen to connect with others who are in the same area of clinical practice. It would be great, if in the future, there was a Large Animal pathway. I know there is the Vet Tech apprenticeship, but this does not allow schedule 3 procedures, it is more about data collation etc.

How can I get out of nursing?

Does anyone have any advice on how to get out of nursing?!
My ambition here is to grow this community of helpful people, so all vet nurses can think of this place as somewhere they can come to ask any question, safe in the knowledge that they will get a helpful, authoritative answer from other members of the community, and they will never be made to feel like they have asked a silly question, unlike some other social media platforms, where you also often have no idea what level of qualification someone has for expressing their opinion.

So, where i am going with this, is an idea to give a certain percentage of the profits of this website back to you, its members.

My idea is to give out Amazon vouchers every month to those members who have helped others, by answering questions posted in the forum.

To qualify, you would need to display your real name and level of qualification in your profile, and be subscribed to the digest: https://www.vetnurse.co.uk/p/questions

My thinking is that in the early days, whilst there are a relatively small number of questions posted, I can just dish out some vouchers at random to those who meet those criteria.

But if the idea is popular, then perhaps I can tie it in with an automated system which gives me a list of people to get vouchers according to a point system at the end of each month.

Whaddyafink?

Fairygodmother Robyn Young Olivia Coulton Louise B Katherine Spear Nick Shackleton annette454

Incidentally, recruitment advertising on this site is cheap by comparison with other sites, and in the future I may increase it and that will allow me to give even more back to you.

Does anyone have any SOP templates please?

Has anyone got a couple of SOP templates that they could share with me as I would like to use them to show students the different ways of making an SOP for different things in practice.
I know I am repeating myself, but that is what this site is ALL about: helping each other.

One small but important admin matter. When things got quieter here, I pre-populated the 'subscribe to thread' option with a tick when you posted a new thread or question, so you would be alerted to any replies.

That does mean, of course, that you get an email when anyone replies, and as the discussions get busier, that becomes a bit of a pain.

Plus, we now have the daily / weekly digest of questions and answers, and you have to subscribe to that to qualify for the vouchers. So no need for an email every time someone replies (unless you want it).

So - I have now disabled the autoselected subscribe when you create a post.

If you are now getting email notifications when people reply to forum threads, the link in the email to unsub appears to be broken and I am looking into that.

However, if you reply to a thread, you can unsub by ticking the 'mute' option before you post your reply.

Any questions, fire away. Otherwise, welcome back everyone!

When do you dispose of IV Paracetamol bottles?

Hi Everyone,
