Vetasept Chlorhex Spray alternative??

Hello all - after some advice and/or what you use in practice for skin prep for sampling/Iv's etc.

Up until now we have been using Vetasept Chlorhex Spray as final application skin prep for sampling, iv's and surgical procedures but now it is no longer available. Searches for an alternative are proving fruitless and NVS say there is nothing and won't be.

What are people using?

In recent years the range of NWPT devices available have varied - most of them are from human healthcare and some no longer support the Veterinary market. This can be frustrating in terms of finding consumables and support for use. HI all,

I've started filming '60 second product briefings for vets and nurses'.

My latest is about Bravecto Injectable, the new year-long flea and tick product from MSD Animal Health.

First question ... what do you think of the film. I should perhaps point out that it is a journalistic film, not an advert (ie I made it and I was not paid, as opposed to an advert, which the manufacturer makes and pays for!). So these are the important facts as I see them.

Second question ... what do you think of the idea of an injectable flea / tick treatment that works for a year. Where do you see it fitting in?

Can you suggest what to use for a rat body suit?

A weird one which I am hoping you can help with.

We had a rat in for a very large lump removal from its right groin/lower abdomen. This has left a large wound to heal. We have placed intradermal sutures and glue as the rat is a known chewer. Any ideas for preventing wound trauma?

With a collar he pushed it off, we tried a sock too small, next sock too big, now trying a sock in-between. Tried dressing but chewed that off. Given their nature what have you tried that might work this time?

Laser and light therapy miracle cure or feeling under pressure to recommend it?

I don't know if anyone will be willing to respond, but It would be good to know if anyone has any thoughts on Laser therapy in practice.

Do you feel under pressure to recommend it and not convinced it works?

Or do you love it and think it's made a huge difference?

New Wednesday Wound Club from the Veterinary Wound Library team... 1st Weds of the month for 6 months.

We are very pleased to announce the launch of our NEW Vet Wound Library Wednesday Wound Club!

Our club will run on the 1st wednesday of the month at 1pm for 6 consecutive months. Sessions will be hosted live and will feature:

A challenging case - A real case from the Vet Wound Library featuring: Presentation, the clinical challenge, progress and outcome. We'll discuss what we all learned and what the case teaches us for similar situations in future.
A therapy summary - We'll summarise a type of generic therapy or technology and it's role in wound management.
A commonly asked question - we'll answer a single question in depth based upon VWL members requests.

Live sessions are free to join for Vets, techs and nurses. If you miss the session we will be recording them and hosting them for access on demand in the VWL member area. If you are not already a member you can join for just £9.00 per month, unsubscribe at any time, and access all of our 30+ hours of specialist led wound management content.

A Stitch in time: Does suturing get you knotted up?

Hello Wound Lovers!

Our August subject at the Vet Wound Library is everything 'Suturing' related. You can ask anything you like about the simple stitch up from reducing SSI's, to how to learn the basics of suturing, to which suture to use when.

We've heard that many practices are under pressure due to less staffing post Covid and that more nurses are getting asked to help 'stitch up' cases and perform simple surgical tasks. While it seems it is that Schedule 3 allows for this under the supervision of a Vet Surgeon, how do feel about it?

Are you already regularly suturing and loving it? Have you been asked to perform wound closures and feel it's a step too far?

If you do 'stitch ups' or perform basic surgical techniques - what sort of things are do you do and why?

Do you want to do more but not being given the chance? and if so why not?

What resources would you need to get started if you are keen to learn or to better support your team.

Rodent/Indolent ulcers

Hi,

My kitten (6m) has just been diagnosed with an Indolent Ulcer. She’s had a steroid injection and is doing well in herself.

I don’t have much knowledge on these and haven’t seen any in practice before. So I was wondering if anyone had any helpful information they wouldn’t mind sharing please.

I understand it’s a hypersensitivity to something and unfortunately she will be prone to them more often in the future.
