They are struggling with injections as dog appears to react, although he has been fine when I’ve done it. I really feel for them, their worries and anxiety are really challenging them to inject. We have done it together many times, I have listened and empathised and feel I have offered huge amount of support and encouragement. What else could I do? I’m at a loss as to how to help them?

Looking into dog bites

Hi all

I'm working on some coursework and need to look into media reports on dog bites and why they are more reported than cat bites. While looking into fatalities in the UK over the last 10 years, unsurprisingly, certain breed names kept cropping up and it got me thinking about experiences in practice. I was wondering what peoples experiences are in regards to bites at work and which breeds, this isnt to go into my coursework or anything like that more my own curiosity at SBT being 'repeat offenders' when I've had more chihuahuas I've had to muzzle.

Does anyone currently have a protocol in place in practice for the care of animals being fed raw meat-based diets (commercial and home made). We have recently seen a big trend to owners switching in our area, but while we want to respect the owners food choice for their pets if they are hospitalised, we also want to ensure the safety of our other patients and staff.

I know that the zoonotic problems sometimes associated with RMDs (salmonella, campylobacter etc) are rare if diets are prepared properly, but I am concerned that if they are present then they may pose a risk to immunosuppressed patients.

Does anyone have a protocol in place for when rmd patients are admitted and hospitalised?

Thank you :)

Vet Nurse
