Have worked in the same practice for a long time and am considered as part of the furniture by now. Recently have been short staffed for various reasons.
Pay difference is now £2000 per annum - I do get accomodation - but this is in exchange for 11 nights out of 14 overnight patient care, and every other weekend. Tonight - after a 12 hour shift am caring for a almost intensive care patient (for which I will claim no hours). Don't mind - knew the situation from when I started. Do not mind the others getting a pay rise, but even a small wage addition or a thank you would help in making me not feel so shitty.

Gut reaction? You have mug tattooed across your forehead. They are taking the mick big style here!!!! Easily done though - I have been sucked into this situation so many times when I have stayed in practice accomodation - but nobody should have to give up that much of their life to their workplace. Maybe they have you over a barrel in their eyes as you cannot leave without losing your home. Where's Sal when you need her? She can advice well on stuff like this. Good luck x

Re: I am a idiot for sure!

[quote user="Sal (the 1st) Holesworth VN CMH Chyp (M)PNLP"]

As a head nurse you are probably on a higher wage anyway (tho not necessarily from personal experience) so does it mean the other nursing staff are getting a wage rise to reduce the gap between head nurse and nurses or is it just that management know you will do the job regardless of cash incentive?

I've been there and done that.

I would sit down with the bosses and discuss all of this and how you are feeling undervalued and that you feel they expect all this extra work for no extra thanks .

No i don,t think its a spot of PMT i think its a case of other ppl TTP! i know exactly where you are coming from, i have done 17 hours ot this week so far but no-one ever queries why this should be necessary! i mean, come on, why is it ALWAYS the same pp who cop for the extra hours (the ones no one else wanted) i had two attempts at leaving work earler today but just HAD to wait for an emergency to come in from another practice and then stayed even longer to apply the intensive theapy post op. my own fault i guess for not want to leave it to for someone else in case they forgot to do it? Perhaps we are closet control-freaks? Seriously tho i absolutly love my job perhaps we just have too much compassion sometimes? I have recently worked my days off too from lack of cover, perhaps its bad management? i would be feeling agrieved if i had missed out on a bonus too! i hope it was an administrative error! Time us part of the furntures to speak out perhaps? Take care and hope you feel more positive soon
