I was just wondering for all you people that has completed the latest and last portfolio might be able to give some advice on the following. I sent my portfolio in to my I.V and the end of June and had rang several times to hear how she was getting

Re: Portfolio (PC's And Scope)

I can see where NurseAnnie is coming from. I've assessed since the portfolio started and i have only recently been told that we now need to track like this. I find using the new tracking sheets much easier than the pink NOS. They make it much clearer. You can download them from RCVS website - they state what scope must be covered for what PC's rather than it just being in bold writing on the standards. It will be ok.

Re: Portfolio (PC's And Scope)

You know there is the appeals system if you feel that the decision is wrong! You can ask the IV for further feedback, go to the Head of Centre, and ultimately an EV would become involved. That way you should get some clarity on why there is a change.

Now apparently we have to "revisit" evidence and write comments relating it to the scope required. I'm just getting fed up with it and the I.Vs at my VNAC contradict each other e.g. one would say the first way is fine and another would insist the second way be done.

Re: Portfolio (PC's And Scope)

Thanks for your reply. Yeah that's what we are doing now but I'm just wondering why it would be different from last year?

Re: Portfolio (PC's And Scope)

i.e give all four to a dog, and then a cat and then a exotic etc.

Re: Portfolio (PC's And Scope)

You mean e.g

VetN 7.1 PC1 a Dog, Cat,Exotic

PC2 B (i) blood (ii) colloid (iii) crystalloid (iv) electrolyte solution

You can give a dog blood, a cat electrolyte and a exotic the other two and thats it all covered? That's how I do it. A girl at college who's VNAC is different has to do every scope B, for a dog, a cat and an exotic.

Re: Portfolio (PC's And Scope)

Hi NurseAnnie,

I think I get what you mean......I suspect the best way to tackle this is for your assessor to write statements that the skills demonstrated are transferable, ie. if you have covered it with a dog case, it is transferable as a skill you are competent in for other species required as well. Technically your IV is right, but it is not usual to ask for practical competence to be demonstrated for every PC/Scope combination - this is where transferable skills are used.

Hope that helps, feel free to message me if I can help any further.
