Awwww I'm GUTTED!!! I live in South Wales and have always wanted to live in west wales.. even though i'm not qualified, I have 9 yrs experience and would have my CV in the post ages ago!! Your practice and staff look lovely I'm still nagging my husband to move lol!

What a lovely reply, and thankyou for seeing things from our point of view.

I am sure I speak for all in wishing you a successful future in your new practice and I hope you get someone soon for the post. I think the post would suit someone who wants to help in the development of the practice and someone who has a good vision of the future VN ... I really do hope you get someone soon. Let us know when you do get someone, and ... how about a few video updates as to how the practice is progressing? that would be fab.

I love the video fab idea!

But I have to say as a qualified experienced VN I would not apply for a job which stated experienced (non qualified) nurse for the reasons stated before. There is a difference and all VN's have worked hard to get those little letters and rightly deserve them and if an employer can not see this then it is not the job for me.

Thank you all very much for your input - it is very much appreciated!

Apologies for the late replies - we still have some very quiet days, but the last two days were anything but and I didn't get a quiet moment last night to write back to everybody.

To everybody who complained about me using the "or experienced VN" term - you are quite right! I actually qualified as the german equivalent before I started studying (although it was nowhere near as hard as the course here - we did not even had a textbook, that came only out the year after I qualified and we sat in class with our human counterparts, with a few bits added in for us) so I know how it is on the other side of the fence.

When I originally wrote my advert it just read that we were looking for a "qualified VN", because that's what I really would like to have. And I was expecting to perhaps not get masses of applications, as we are a start-up practice, where you don't get loads of interesting cases all the time, but I was expecting to get at least some...

But, we did not get a single application! Not even anybody enquiring about any further details...!!! That when that "or experienced" got edited in and yes, it should have read "qualified VN or somebody with a lot of experience in veterinary nursing". So, wrong terminology, but used in desperation!

Having said that, I do not want to forget some excellent student nurses, who I have come across over the years and who got themselves in a tiff at exam times and failed them and who I would not want to feel written off in everyday practice. So while I agree they are not "veterinary nurses" , I don't want them to feel that their contributions to a practice are not valued either. But, while Sarah, my RVN is listed outside on the practice sign, a non-qualified student nurse would not be and the range of work would differ between the two of them.

So, all you qualified VN's - my apologies for upsetting you - but bloody hell, can we please have just the one, perfect one of you, applying????

But apart from the fact that there seem to be not enough VN's around looking for a job at the moment, from you feed-back it seems that our location is our biggest drawback.

And yet Pembrokeshire is such a beautiful place with such nice people around (moved away for a while and hated not having my usual friendly, mostly honest, chatty clients and people who greeted each other in the street) and while we really can't claim to have a thriving night life around here, those beaches really do make up for it in my eyes! Speaking of eyes, we had David Williams, the ophtalmologist from Cambridge operating in our practice again today (he has a holiday cottage here), which makes it quite interesting sometimes and gives us some home-made CPD!

And Sarah and Jayne really could do with a break!!!

At the moment I don't feel that training somebody would be a good option. Sarah has only qualified herself last year and if I have some "free time", it immediately gets filled up with sorting out one thing or another. If we had an experienced, qualified VN and Sarah, then training up a third nurse later on would probably be an option, but right now...

Anyway, we'll just carry on looking - the exhaustion fuelled hysteria hasn't quite set in yet, we are still buzzing with the new clients that keep coming through the door every day!

And if any of you are in Pembrokeshire at any time, come and pop in - we are always happy to show people round and we are always happy to share our lunch goodies!

Myself, Nick and Claire who all come on here are all about protecting the title Veterinary Nurse, (maybe you have heard of the petition?) exactly for the reason stated above. Apart from that it looks like a lovely practice.

Really well thought out advert and lots of info about the practice and loved the Videos and photos too

I have to agree that you can only be a VN after attending a recognised college or university course followed by rigorous examinations and practicals, not forgetting portfolio of evidence, whether that be the actual NVQ portfolio or the green book or the new system that is been brought in. You can't have an unqualified VN, no such term exists.

Sorry if this comes across as arrogant, it's not my intention. I am just passionate about the profession and it's future.....

I loved the idea of the video, and thought it was a beautiful practice with lovely friendly staff, but I am afraid to say I thought exactly the same as Sandra with the Qual or experienced thing!!

Sorry, but in this day & age we should be trying to promote VN's in their own right and moving away from non qualifieds doing our job.

But, I dont want to cause a stir, or an argument or any bad feeling you understand so please dont be offended!! xxx

Having read the job advert on here I was going to say that. I wouldn't be inclined to apply for a job that stated this as it makes me think that my qualification isn't that important.

If I lived closer, or could move, my C.V. would already be in the post It does look amazing.

We are based in the West Midlands and have really struggled to find a qualified nurse as well, they seem to be few and far between!

I saw your advert in the Vet Times and loved the YouTube video, I thought it was a great idea to see what the practice was like before you applied.

I love the idea of a different kind of job advert that isn't the 'normal' text in an advert.

If I was looking in the area, I would have definitely applied. You all seemed really friendly.

Maybe it's that there aren't many VNs looking for work in the area?

What is your competition like? What are they offering that you aren't?
