'The Animal Welfare Act 2006, the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 and the Welfare of Animals (Northern Ireland) Act 1972 provide that failure to destroy an animal to prevent further suffering may be an offence. (Unnecessary suffering or cruelty) The duty to destroy falls most heavily on the veterinary surgeon who has the skill and training to make the correct assessment. In these circumstances he/she acts as an agent of necessity, and should make a full record of all the circumstances supporting the decision in case of subsequent challenge.'

Re: Stupid IDIOTIC clients

Well done Carolyn I'm still looking for this article I spoke about earlier........

Re: Stupid IDIOTIC clients

I delt with an owner the other month that said they were taking their dog home etc etc. I told them that l would be reporting them to rspca and see them in court for cauing cruelty and suffering.
the other day we had an angry client because she thought we weren't doing anything to her cat while hospitalised for initially blocked bladder (ruled out as there was flow when squizing bladder) but as that was ruled out we wanted to know what was wrong then as the bloods were out.
put on a drip and kept in overnight and owner phoned in the morning for a update.
I spoke to her as I just took over hospital and told her he was doing well as in comfortable wise, still on a drip and waiting to get a urine sample either in katkor tray or by syringe. I thought she was fine with that and we would call her when results were known.

apparantly she phoned back 5 mins later and receptionist said owner was really angry cause we weren't doing anything for her cat and she was on her way to collect it!
vet went to speak to her when owner arrived to explain what we were doing and what was needed to get to know what was wrong with her cat and came back all shaking because the owner was so angry and unreasonable and was taking the cat home!

Why cant some people see we are not miracle workers and dont have the abbility to ASK the animals what is wrong with them so we can send them home immediatley with some tablets!

Re: Stupid IDIOTIC clients

Yes we do that too loobylou

Re: Stupid IDIOTIC clients

Am pretty sure we can't insist on euthanasia and refuse to let them take home.
