I work for vygon veterinary supplies, we are a manufacturer of critical care consumables. I saw your post and i think that we may be able to help you.

The product you are describing is a needle free device. needle free devices were developed for the NHS around 15 years ago for 2 reasons- firstly there is a safety concern to the patient and the user (Needle stick injuries) but also in a bid to prevent catheter related blood stream infection.

Vygon vet have a range of needle free devices. The range is called bionector and within the range are t pieces, octopus cannula extensions and giving sets. We do however also have the product as a stand alone bung which can be attached directly to a cannula.

The only advice i would offer is that if you are going to access a needle free bung frequently (to give fluids/meds or to take the patient outside etc) I would recommend using a t piece. it allows you to take manipulation away from the cannula insertion site, reducing the risk of mechanical phlebitis and in effect will allow the cannula to last longer.

I have added to my files a downloadable piece of literature which describes how the products can be used and also some technical data about it's testing etc.

you can view our product range at http://www.vygonvet.co.uk/40-single-lumen

I hope this information is useful to you. if you have any queries please give me a shout.

Best wishes
