I reply i dont know as only a student nurse, cannot make diagnosis and am currently 265 miles away from home at college anyway! Anyhoo, to cut to the chase, have just been on facebook and seen his status as 'Dave is thinking of becoming a vet, £50 for 10 mins of easy work!' Bloody cheek! I replied that i actually earn 98p per 10 mins and then to top it all off, another person has commented that he should of just googled what was wrong with the cat as you can find out everything you need to know on there and he shouldnt of wasted his money!

yes but not every child with learning difficulties/ behavioral problems is aggressive - where this is a problem then yes caring for a live animal can help them develop coping/social skills/ responsibilities that can stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives - but if this isnt done with caution its really not good for the animals involved. I do voluntary work with special needs juveniles and adults - I know that there are among the group some that are careful and understand how to be careful with the unit's pets and understand the concept of hurt and harm and some that must not come into contact with them even if supervised because they lack that understanding

Re: Can you just....................
Does anyone else get fed up of the can you justs of RVN life?!

Not been in any way awful, but I have fab neighbours but they have a huge French Lop rabbit, it is a house rabbit, 10 months old, I have told them to have her vacc/spayed etc, explained about environmental enrichment/walking her/etc, they are having dominance problems with her, she is now burrowing out of their garden, well thats a surprise!! NOT! and they are expressing an interest in rehoming her.....

Then last night, at around 9.30pm, I get a text, can we borrow you, the rabbit has cut its paw!! Im at home, in my jimmy jams, so I just said i am in my jamas, I have no kit at home, so you can just bathe with salt water, (this rabbit is relatively unhandleable!) they then text to say it looks like her claw, presumably burrowing I would think!!

Thing is, I feel crap, for not going round, but I have a lot going on with my own and my partners ill health issues, so my down time is valuable & I am not feeling that well presently, I feel very down and now feel very guilty but I also feel that they need to take ownership for the animal & deal with it, I am not a vet, and I am not a freebie advice centre to avoid a vets consult!!!

Thoughts guys? am I in the wrong here?
NO definitely not! If you are qualified and you gave them advice that they then cocked up presumably you could be held accountable for that so tell them that while you find it flattering that they value your opinion and expertise they really need to consult a vet as you cannot diagnose and are entitled to your free time. It sucks that as a profession we are put upon by others using our love for animals to tug on our heartstrings to give them what they want but you need your downtime. Turn your phone off, hide behind the sofa when they call over or move lmao (just kidding)

Re: Can you just....................
as soon as they ask i just say 'ill stop you right there if you want advise its a £100 up front'
They are very good to us because they let my dogs out when we're at work but I didn't know what they were expecting me to do!

I know nothing about the dogs medical history and all I know is it's 12 and overweight! They showed me the tablets it had been put on recently (fortekor) for an enlarged heart. I checked her colour which was fine and told them to call their vet in the night if they are worried. Don't know what they were expecting me to do!

Re: Can you just....................

i use to not tell anyone i was a vn because of allways getting the 'can you just' or 'ive got a little questiion'
