Just wondering whether many people have made a crossover to the NHS? I know someone is training to be a radiographer, is anyone else doing something similar?
I'm quite interested in their Neurophysiology training course. Anyone doing this or

Re: Crossing over to the NHS??

Great, thanks for all of the replies - much appreciated. I've been digging a little deeper (looking on NHS careers website) and have looked into a few things. Decided I would love to get into Neurophysiology so it's just a matter of waiting for a training role to come up around London.

I don't think there are any weekends involved either lol.

Re: Crossing over to the NHS??

Hello !

KateC is a good person to PM. She is a qualified Radiotherapist and takes images and delivers treatment & care to cancer patients especially. Kate undertook her DipAVN in Medical and found herself particularly interested in the radiography element and I think things kind of went from there. She undertook a 3 year degree and graduated with honours in 2008 and won Radiography Student of the Year ( I am going to blow her trumpet as she won't !). I think she is really enjoying her job and she still does some Vn work on weekends etc.,

I know a few people who have gone into Occupational Therapy And several into Nursing & Midwifery . F1Chick is in her first year of Adult Nursing And I have applied to do adult nursing either at the end of this year or start of 2010. I have been considering the move nearly 5 years now and have finally decided to do it.

The NHS Careers website is a good place to start to mull over the various roles available. There are lots of routes of study and career paths available but once you have a few ideas seeking out people who are studying or have qualified and speaking to them is a good place to start . Most of the unis have open days and you could also contact your local NHS Trust to see if you can have chat with someone in a role you are interested in.

If its nursing you are interested in let me know as I have a few websites that i have found useful including a forum similar to this one for prospective nurses and student nurses

Re: Crossing over to the NHS??

I worked for the Ambulance Service for 2yrs when I first relocated to the North west. Spent the first year working as a dispatcher, taking 999 calls from the public, giving first aid advice/CPR etc over the phone and dispatching ambulances to them. Good for a while but was ready to mkove on as hated shift work and at the end of the day, it was a call centre, elbeit an interesting one. It also made me paranoid about being out in city centres at night as I got to hear about every reported stabbing, shooting, domestic etc.

Then moved to a local hospital as Manager of a team of Patient Transport Ambulance Drivers ( non-emergency eg transfers to out patients etc) which I hated. All politics, red tape and impossible budgets/targets, a load of disgruntled staff and half of them off with bad backs and stres long term. Oh, and no vertime allowed in order to meet aforementioned targets!

Glad to be back working with animals. Give me a scratch or a bite over verbal abuse any day!

Re: Crossing over to the NHS??

I'm currently dooing my nursing degree in adult nursing

Re: Crossing over to the NHS??

Contact Aingy Michael assuming she does not read this and contact you she knows nurses who have crossed over to or from the dark side (not sure which is dark side them or us but someone has to be)

Re: Crossing over to the NHS??

[quote user="Maisy"]

One of our nurses left practice to train as an Operating Dept Practitioner and she's really enjoying it. I think the main reason for her wanting to leave practice was salary (isn't it always!) but as she enjoyed theatre/surgical nursing this seemed like a good alternative.

Re: Crossing over to the NHS??

Wendy Norwell has done the cross over - I think she's in pharmacy though

Re: Crossing over to the NHS??

Hi, first of all, you should put some info into your profile! That way, you are likely to get more answers if the rest of us know what you are about so to speak! On the old site, KateC is a radiographer. Not sure if she is on the new site though, havent noticed her although she could have changed her name. If you search for her on the old site, you will get her email address. Hope this helps
