I have my practical exam in September and was just wondering what type of instuments would come up? I don't know how far I should go with revising of instuments. Obviously I know the ones that are used

Re: Practicals

Thanks everyone! Hopefully I will be ok then, we have most of the basics at our practice so I will just keep going over those.

Re: Practicals

Hey they also test u on suture materials too, i got suture materials and pins in my practical along with ortho equipment mostly.

Re: Practicals

in mine iv had iris scissors, so some eye kit stuff, also basic orthopedic stuff , screws, wires and pins, and the basics in a kit, just dont forget to cover the end of any sharp instrument when asked to pack an instrument!!

Re: Practicals

Just a quick tip......a friend has mentioned that Cheatle Forceps may well be included in new scheme, so make sure you know what they are amd how to use them!!!

The tutor I had in first year at uni did a 10 minute session on instruments covering only the basics and we never covered it again so I literally only knew the stuff we regularly used in practice. I did my practicals this time, but a few weeks before also did a practice run for examiner training, all set up and run by RCVS officials and both times found instruments much easier than I expected. Chances are if there are a couple of things you're not sure of it is easy to work them them out through process of elimination anyway - which is why I focused more on learning differences between similar instruments rather than learning every single instrument.

If you are already happy with ortho stuff and the general routine stuff I really think you have nothing to worry about.
