I agree - lots of vets are a bit insecure and that why they are sometimes silly like this. I find the phrase "I can suck eggs, thanks" a useful one on occasions!

Also, a wise man in a pub once said to me that if someone thinks you are stupid you have instantly got one up on them because you know you are not!

I've had vets speak to me like this when they were actually at primary schook the year i qualified as a VN! I no longer care, i take a deep breath and rise above it!!

Sometimes i think they do this because they need to be sure that the job will be done properly because they are (currently) ultimately responsible. I'm afraid I think ive adopted a similar tone with students if ive been the only VN in the building and need to reassure myself - if you see what i mean!

God they must be awful nightmares!!!!

I think i'll cry with joy when it's done...i just need some animals to come in to be able to do case logs!! Really need a CBA, lots of radiography (not soft tissue) and a hospitalised patient needing physio and lots of nursing care...!

But just think how good it will feel when its finished! (Although I still have bad dreams that college phone me to say there is a hug bit i've missed out and have to repeat the year!)

I get days when little things bug me, other days when it goes over my head. Bloody portfolio stress atm makes things seem 10x worse than they are!

Bizzy i remember being made to look like an idiot in front of a client in a consult when i worked there. Animal needed admitting...the 3 rings of the bell went (you can probably guess what vet if they still use the same rooms?!)...so off i went, asked to admit cat, so off i go for consent form, come back to be told HOW TO ADMIT THE CAT!!! Literally, step by step...fill out the consent form, put cat in kennel with litter tray, put label on kennel, put label on carrier, put it in the ops book, do you know what that is?...then turned to client "we have to make sure these nurses know what they're doing"

Hmmm wonder why i was only there 8 months?!

I remember as a qualified being asked various things by vets that hacked me off -such as did I know how to weigh a cat? At the time I found it infuriating but now I laugh at it.

i echo whats already been said, been in practice for 11 years, qualified for 7 and been at the referral practice for 3 years now and still get asked if i am confident/happy doing something.

I just say yes or no as appropriate, then if they ask me to do something i'm not happy doing then i ask them for direction.

I know some of "my team" are more happy to let me do things than others, during the uni breaks it is an ideal time for me to ask if I can do some things to get the practice in cos during term times we are surrounded by students so have no or very little opportunity to gain experience.

Just remember you are a competant nearly qualified nurse and dont take these little questions to heart. xxx

I got asked by one of my old bosses who I has worked on and off for for 6 years to give an injection I/M. He then proceeded to tell me that that meant in the muscle! I just smiled and nodded. Don't let it get to you. Some vets just don't realise exactly how much nurses know!

aw << hugs to you >> I'm sure the vet ment no offence, one of the vets at our sister clinic is like that.. always asking 'now, you ok doing this' ... umm yes, done it 1000's of times! lol xxx
