The COAPE diplomas sound fab but are unsuitable for me as they are residential, however, I might do some of their modules in the future. The Improve International course sounds like a really good starting point....

As far as my practice paying theres not a chance as they dont pay for nurse cpd but will pay for vets-dont get me started! so i thought if there not going to help me improve i will have to help myself. thankyou again

Re: improve international behaviour certificate

Hi. I've just finished the 8 module Improve Behaviour course and am currently working thorough my cases and revision ready for the exam in November. Unlike you I didn't have to pay for the course or exam but I can say its been really useful and enjoyable. What I liked was the fact it was linked to an exam and made the course more credable. I don't work within private practice (have done in the past) but can appreciate this course can really set you up to offer appropriate advice to your dog and cat owning clients. We had a couple of vets on the course with us and they found the info useful also (they are doing the exam too). The tutor we had was highly engaging and had a wealth of relevant information to help us in our learning. The course notes were excellent and presentations used during lectures were e-mailed for our records etc. What I would say is if you are going to do it do all 8 modules! the knowledge builds up and one supports the other...its also good to get to know other people and build friendships for help later on! Hope this helps....it is expensive if you have to pay yourself...can't you get help from the practice? the service you can give to the clients is well worth the investment I think. You can do it over a couple of years but if you are anything like me once I start I want to plough through it and get it over with (in a positive way of course!).

Re: improve international behaviour certificate

Hi, I've sent you a PM with some contact deatils on

Re: improve international behaviour certificate

hi jacqui, that would be great as i really want to do the course but some feedback would be very useful. thanks

Re: improve international behaviour certificate

Hi, we can probably put you in touch with people who are on the course at the moment if you like?
I'm starting the COAPE diploma in september, before deciding on doing this I looked into the various options myself. Most behaviourists seem to have either the COAPE diploma, or are members of the APBC (which requires a behaviour related degree to be a member).

There's a million different ways to get into behaviour, and no matter how many qualifications you get experience is the main thing....as there is so many different courses and no regulatory body for behaviourists, its a personal decision deciding what route to take...but the reasons i'm doing the COAPE diploma are as follows:

As I mentioned above most behaviour counsellors have done the diploma or are members of the APBC - as i'm working full time and already have a nursing degree i dont fancy doing another degree

COAPE is a CPD partner with the BVNA, the diploma counts for 500 hours CPD!!!!

COAPE has been approved by the National Open College Network (NOCN)

I know a few people who have completed it and really enjoyed it and are now working as successful behaviour counsellors

And the course content looks really good

Although as the Improve International course is aimed at VNs the course content may be more appropriate.

At £2000 hopefully you can speak to someone who has done the improve international course, the COAPE course is about £1000 more, which is very painful but i'm hoping will be an investment

Good luck with whatever you decide to do
