We are only a smal practice but keep frewsh frozen plasma in. Dont keep packed red cells as dont last long enough and think you are meant to keep mixing bag so would be worried they would not be kept as they should be. We find we use more plasma than anything, only used the red cells a few times.

fresh frozen plasma lasts a year, maybe you and persuade your practice to at least keep that in? probably not of much use in this case, but worth asking as they do smaller bags of that too! Hope the blood transfusion helps.

Yeh, thats the impression we were under... that they would deliver it whenever needed. The patient is still alive...just, PCV went down to 2% !!! so managed a tranfusion yesterday. The practice doesn't really allow us to call the donor list overnight.

Was unaware of the vets now situation... handy to know! Wish they would keep something in stock for us overnight but unfortunately it is out of our hands!

we try and keep 1 in, we did start ordering it when we needed it at the request of the blood bank they promised that we could have it whenever we needed within 2hrs. yep all well and good till we rang and they denied all knowlage so we gone back to keeping it in stock.

we also have a list of donars inc staff pets. not mine though cat too small and dog gsd

we keep a stock of packed cells and ffp in all the time although granted we do use it fairly frequently

prior to PBB being set up and running well we kept a list of donor animals (mainly staff pets who we could bleed

The VetsNow clinics will sometimes sell blood overnight to a practice, but only the busy clinics stock blood all the time and it would depend on whether they might need it. Always worth asking though :)

yup my 'Oscar' was a type b moggy and 'Blue' a type a

Oscar donated 4 or 5 times during his life and Blue 3 times.

thats why we just kept our own list of donors, some were typed some were not - but it was better than struggling when we really needed blood. How is it doing?
