When I young & irresponsible I had a multitude of stupid cars - I had a Fiat 126 which was fantastic but slightly scary as I put my foot through the floor on several occassions & ended up with a plywood floor & gaffa tape. It was mustard yellow!

I then got a red Citreon 2CV 6 special with the number 66 painted on the sides & I went CV racing in it. Great fun!! My dad worried about me crashing but I always said at least I would never go through the windscreen - as I wouldn't fit. The gear stick is in the dashboard & the seats used to unclip to make picnic benches!!

Then I got the "Biege Mobil" - a lovely shitty beige colour Fiesta (a bit like GSD with EPI poo) It was great 2 days after I sold it the suspension fell apart!! So glad I sold it as seen!!

Then I had a Mitsuibishi Colt called Benjamin Matthew (He wanted to be a BMW but wasn''t quite there) He was also a shitty brown colour!! He got bounced off the motorway central reservation in Switzerland once too often and died there.

Then I went through a variety of other Citreons - BX, AX, KX - ones with the pumpy air suspensions - not particularly good for driving through fields or sand dunes!!

Once you have children you have to become old & responsible & I drive my Peugot 307 but I really want a Chaterham 7!! Give me a year or 12 and I'll get it!

We, at work are plagued with boy racers too, mainly at night and weekends, speed bumps were put up in the carpark beside work for that reason but it still doesnt stop them

It's not just boy racers, Girls are just as bad, there are loads where I stay, and they all gather on the prom or down the beach.One incident last year, a young girl had her car confiscated, it was on the front of our local paper, nice car too, but you just wonder how they can afford not only to buy them, but to insure them.

We have boy racers around...i was walking Jack the other day and saw that one of them had been pulled over by the police hahahahahahahahaha i wanted to laugh in their face. But obviously didn't for fear of being beaten up lol!

When my alternator went, the only warning I got was the battery light came on as I drove home from Tesco's on the Sunday eve. Got hubby to check, he said could find nothing wrong. Next morning, got about 500 yards up the road - power steering and everything went

no didnt seem too, when it broke down the car just wouldnt go on, im still not sure what arm it was when OH gets home i'll ask him he'll know he spoke to mechanic

track rod arm? and alternator - you need to find a nice tame mechanic - what you driving?

Didnt you get any warning with the alternator - ie the car not holding its charge or the battery draining?

Forgot to say I got my car back yesterday and it was some arm and an alternator??!?!? gone as you can tell I understood clearly what the mechanic was saying to me! anyway cost £358 to fix so alot but not as bad as I was thinking!

I have just found the ideal vehicle for me if I ever get a driving license - FIAT topolino 1935 , restoration project. It can keep the motorbike company in their respective boxes

I just have to get a license now I know this car is around!

I used to have an L reg Peugeot 106, was a fantastic first car and very reliable. Now have a 55 reg Fiesta, i love driving her! So comfortable, and like you Deemus i feel spoilt now having power steering, electric windows, audio controls on steering column, air con, heated windscreen (fantastic for icy days!), a 1.4 engine (old car was only 0.9!). I feel much more grown up driving her, my first 'proper' car

BUT there is something going on with her..there is a constant rubbing type noise, have taken to a Ford garage who had a good look, thought they'd found the prob part, changed it but still not better. It's not affecting the running of the car so it's been left, they said they don't want to keep changing parts and costing me more money when they aren't sure what it is. Also every so often she will loose power for a few min then it will be ok again, mainly seems to be on my way to work in the morning...doesn't like mornings, and i don't blame her!

I have to put my tuppence worth in. I've just bought an X reg Ford Escort and I have to say that I love it. I had an N reg one that had reached the end of its life. The new one is my first car with power steering, air con and electric windows. Man I feel spoilt!

Anyhow, I have to say that nothing much ever went wrong with my first Escort, it needed an eye kept on the oil but other than that, it never went wrong. It was just underpowered (1.3l) for the size of the car. The non power steering thing was getting to me too.

The other half has a Land Rover Defender, I have to admit that I dont enjoy driving it. Too slow, too high up and too cold! I often lose him for an afternoon for tinkering and general TLC of the car. I don't mind, gets him out of my hair ;)

I had a Peugot 306 for years, as had my brother and my mum!! Never gave me any bother other than the heater plugs needing replaced once. I now have a Vauxhall Vectra, first thing to go was the altnator (?sp) and it has to go back to garage again as there is a definite 'knocking' on the passenger side. Giving me nothing but trouble Beautiful car though, very nice looking (new version) though my friend reckons its like a police car only without the blacked out windows

Hi Katy, yes they are great cars, but mega expensive now for road tax, and the insurance has went up a bit too, thats why I traded. I am loving my new car though, really nice to drive... not sure about the metal gear stick though on cold mornings Might see if I can change it for a leather one, or invest in driving gloves....lol

My hubby is a bit of a car enthusiast too, and I dont mind either really, he is like a kid in a sweet shop when he gets a new car.

ooo thats a nice car too

impreza is my dream car so i am slightly jealous but he lives for his cars and he doesn't have any other vices so can't begrudge him i suppose

I'm looking at maybe getting a crv next time are they nice cars?

Your Hubby sounds just like mine, he has an impreza too, and when I was trading my CRV, he wanted me to get a WRX!!!!!!! we compromised though I got a Type R Civic, so he can drool over my fast car anytime he likes

I have ford focus estate and i love it!! I call it my mum mobile, it is full of rubbish from child and dogs shopping etc but i think its great. Its never let me down, hubby not keen - not fast enough for him!!!

He has just got rid of mondeo for subaru impreza (older one but still cool) so will never see him again, keeps nipping outside to "check something on car", think he loves it more than me
