I really love Village Vet. No other company I've been involved with has given it's staff such great opportunities. I'm not having a go at anyone but most of the negative feedback seems to stem from people who didn't get offered a position there? May be it's slightly unfair to make comments about a group you really don't know anything about? As far as training positions go there are very few yet there are hundreds of applicants every year. I've a friend who was manager for another group before and she said there would be 200+trainee applicants every year (even with no advertised position) so you have to really stand out and show how keen you are which may mean you have to be flexible in your times, travel to an interview, make sure the practice knows why you're the best person by writing an excellent cover letter etc. I know village vet put an awful lot of focus on their training - therefore advancing the profession of veterinary nursing which is good for all nurses, trainees or not. I wouldn't be critisising the clinics and groups who do train unless you want them to stop as it is a really big commitment for a practice and if you are lucky enough to get a training position its a really fantastic career. The bottom line though is don't give up if it's what you really want!!!

Yes, i totally agree. I have had an alltogther excellent experience with Village Vet. I have been qualified for 11 years and experienced some really rubbish practices, but this was not the case at Village Vet.

I found them professional when i was interviewed and was also sent a 'welcome pack' once i was offered the job (which incidently was a within a week of applying).

I have now been with Village Vet for over three years and have found them really great -especially from a nursing point of view. Village Vet really care about their staff and i have found them a joy to work for. In my opinion any nurse would be lucky to get a job for Village Vet, they are great!

I think I need to say something positive here for Village Vets. I have only locummed for them once - this New Year - and only at one of their clinics - Vet24 Cambridge - but I found them to be very professional and the team very welcoming and friendly. My booking was confirmed in writing, I was sent a 'welcome pack' (with protocols, etc) as requested by me and was given an induction on arrival (I arrived 2 hours early for this and was paid for it as extra) before starting my shift (rare when locumming) and was paid promptly following my invoice. The team were all friendly and welcoming and I wouldn't hesitate to go back to this clinic. All in all my experiences of this particular clinic were really positive.

I don't work for the practice named but...

We recently advertised for 3 posts and I sorry but if I'd had to ring / write to every reply I'd be still doing it now.

We put in our adds "if applicants havn't heard by xxx date "

I also hate bad manners& we did three full days of interviews so thats 3 full days of me, the line manger & my HVN being paid but not actually doing any "work" and on the second morning only 2 of the candidates turned up, despite them all getting letters & phone calls the prior afternoon to confirm (yet more unproductive time)

Not getting your hopes up but i'm head nurse at practice in barnsley we might be looking later on this year for trainee.

We have someone going on maternity in summer and we haven't decided what we are doing yet but if you want to send me a cv i will keep you on file.

The thing that annoyed me the most was when i was sending out CVs asking around for jobs...one practice just sent me back my CV with a scribbled note on the bottom!!! They could have at least written a quick note on a compliments slip!

I've done a lot of customer services work so it always annoys me when people don't call back when they say they will. I've always made the time to call customers back, no matter how busy the office was, so there's just no excuse for not calling. This is one of my pet hates and it happens such a lot. There's no need for it.

Thinking about it, i'm glad that this happened. Imagine moving to London and then finding out how mean they are. And if they treat humans that way, god knows how they treat the animals.

I'm actually glad I didn't get the job there, I later found another job in the UK, been here 13 months, and have found an even better one that I'm starting the 9th of Feb. :)

Not slagging Village Vets, but they did make me fly out to the UK for an interview that was almost guaranteed to me, only to be told upon getting back to my country that they had decided not to fill the post anymore. I later verified that fact with a locum. So yeah, that was expensive.
