will agree NLP is brilliant for exam nerves - easiest reframe in the world, instead of getting het up about being examined see it from another angle.Imagine the examiners as students and you have to teach them how to do a task

Re: 4th time practicals

Haha! Excellent Sal you are CMH Chyp (M)PNLP ! Well please accept my humblest apologies for calling you expensive, shall we say relative to a SVN wage but very reasonable otherwise ;) You will agree with my recommendations then? Can't beat a bit of NLP to sort out that pesky nervousness! I've not heard of Glenn Harrold, McKenna's a little cheesey but he's the dude in my books, however I'm going to check Glenn out :)...great to make your acquaintance.

Re: 4th time practicals

[quote user="Rhiannon Stundon RVN MBVNA"]

not all of us are that pricey

Mckenna is good, but if you cant find it cheap try Glenn Harrold - you can pick these up in most chemists

Re: 4th time practicals

Hi rhiannon I will be eternally greatful if I have passed and it would mean so much to me but if i havent its another knock and its really starting to affect my health and I really cannot put myself through anymore stress. I, like finn, can do it with my eyes closed but you need the qual these days esp with the panorama thing! I think i could always go back to it and maybe do the new framework maybe if it doesnt work out but i would have a break.Just hope i do it thur...

Re: 4th time practicals

thnku xx

Re: 4th time practicals

Don't give up! You've worked sooooooooooooooo hard and come sooooooooooooooo far! Please don't stop now.

Perhaps you think it's a bit silly but I really can't recommend hypnotherapy enough. It's really expensive to use a one-on-one hypnotherapist but I've found these Paul McKenna books/CDs amazing...you can pick them up second hand for next to nothing on Amazon.

It's all in the mind, so you can use these books/CDs to get your mind to behave under such difficult circumstances...it really, really works.

I really hope you all don't loose faith, that you keep going and succeed. You really deserve to pass having come this far.

Re: 4th time practicals

im with u on this guys, my 3rd attempt results come out on thurs, not too confident on how ive done, nerves like you let me down, i can do it with my eyes closed at work, as im sure you can too, my boss has said it wont affect my job, but im sure it will, especially with panoramas programme and new rules comming in to play. ive already decided i dont want to do again, like you i keep asking myself y do i keep putting myself thru it. can i ask how easy was it to get a 4th attempt!!

Re: 4th time practicals

ps i printed my pracs out and revised over and over and over- i knew what i had to do- its being nervous and doing it without ur mind going blank thats so hard for me...

Re: 4th time practicals

Hi kerry, i could be in the same boat as you-i get my results for my third attempt on thurs-honestly not sure if iv done it or not. I have been so so nervous to the point where i nearly fainted in one of the tasks last time!I felt soooo embarrased and it really doesnt reflect what im like as a nurse.Im not sure if focusing on the bad areas - as I say I could have done it but it doesnt fill me with confidence because I have failed the times before. Iv actually done it four times but the first exam was void. Im doubting that my current practice will let me do the fourth attempt :( -theyv already explained they are unsure what will happen if I fail and at the moment im in limbo- theres nothng they can say to make me feel better-i just want to know My tutor has explained that I could move to another practice to do my fourth attempt but is it really worth it?. Im so exhausted and iv been ill because of it so I have come to the decision that if i havent done it maybe its time to admit defeat- I keep asking myself if im that nervous why am i putting myself through this? X

Re: 4th time practicals

I really feel for you, I was terrified doing my practical exams and fumbled my way through things I've done thousands of times before!

My advice is two-fold:

If you haven't already done so print-out and run through the Practical Exams on the RCVS website so that you know them inside out and back to front. Get a friend/colleague/your assessor to test you over and over again, so that by the time you resit you will have done each task literally 50 times. (Asking a fellow SVN to test you is great for you and for them, even if they're in the first year - it'll be invaluable experience for them).

Get a Paul McKenna book/CD on Confidence:

http://www.paulmckenna.com/confidence.aspx?rpid=137

or use something similar. I love this sort of thing and I have used it to get me through countless nerve-wracking situations.

I really hope this helps...you can do it, you really can!
