At the Heelwork to Music classes i went to with Jack there was a malamute, she was really good at it. Every so often she'd decide to howl though lol!

This is so funny.... I saw today on our appointments list a 'Siberian' booked in, but it turned out to be just the owner (no pet) to talk to the vet about a pet passport... I took the oppurtunity to jump on her to talk about Huskies, asking her if it was very demanding/ destructive/ all the points I have read up on etc... She seemed a bit confused and said no to all of it and that she'd never heard these things... I asked if it tended to run off etc, and she said no, it lives indoors only- I said, 'no, I mean when you walk it...' Turns out she has a Siberian CAT!

Man did I feel like an idiot!

There's a guy near us with a team of 4 huskies. He knows he can't let them off the lead so he's got one of those land sled things. It's brilliant to see him whoosh down the cycle path with the dogs. Great exercise for them and they're doing what they do best.

Very much agree!

They still have the pack mentality instilled in them and need to know their place in the family and that they aren't the alpha dog.

They're incredibly independent dogs for one thing and also aren't a 'one man dog' although this isn't through lack of loyalty. They're also a breed that's really no use for guarding. Siberians are also notorious for not being able to be let off the lead simply because once they're off, they're off. It's not that they're stupid or deliberately being naughty, they're just so independent (they don't do well with things like agility or show obedience either) that they just go and know you can't catch them :P They're very much a worker, they know what they're meant to do but are just bloody-minded to boot.

Aww, he looks lovely!

I don't know really anything about husky's but have heard mentioned here more than once how different they are to other dogs and how they have very different psychology and different needs etc- Can anyone expand on this for me as to why and in what ways? (Just curious!)

Oh he's so gorgeous. If I didn't have a boy myself, I'd be very interested. But yeah, try getting in touch with breed specific rescues, they might be able to help out.

I find making a foster dog a facebook page helps spread the word through friends of friends etc. Beautiful dogs, I love them, very misunderstood though.

Where abbots are you?

Luckily through having two other huskies myself I do have some contacts, just need to find him a home asap!

Personally I'd contact the Breed rescue. Does he have any papers? Contact your local dog mushing group. Sibe Space has lots of onfo on them also. They are a specialist breed that need carefull homing, and a different lifestyle to other pet breeds.

I'd put him on the breed rescue site, any local Canix web sites any dogrescuepages.org.

snowpawstore.com has lots of fab stuff for dogs that like to run and pull. We have just started dog scootering with our collie x and pointer x. They love it!! My hubby want a Sibe or cross for scootering, but I'd never have one. We have cats and I don't want my garden to be a fortress.
