cottages4you have lists of vacancies and you can do a quick search, which doesn't take long. We found a lovely converted barn cottage, but that was February, so more availability. That was just North of Tywyn, Mid Wales, right on the coast.

Dippy, have you looked on E bay at all? we did exactly the same thing & found a cheap little cottage last minute & managed to get the man to let us take all four of our creatures!!! It was in the lakes, was so cosy n cute!!

I have thanks. Like I said, looked at lots of areas and am happy and flexible with tons of locations, just can't actually find anywhere who have vacancies at this time of year at short notice and will do a 2 night break peak season - that's the sticking point.

Pwllheli, Porthmadog and Criccieth in North Wales (all on the coast) have lots of self catering and caravan/ camping type places, a lot dog friendly I think, have you looked at those areas?

Am hoping someone may just know someone who has a cottage or something. Usually I love spending asges scouring ther net for the best deals etc but usually I have more than a week's notice to do it and everywhere isn't already booked plus I would never usually go in the middle of the school holidays when the prices are hiked up massively and most places won't do short breaks as it would mean them missing out on whole week bookings (which obviously I totally understand but it doesn't help me!)

Perhaps Caro could help? She is a mine of information! Joe Public could google something with no results, but Caro can find what you want - otherwise it just aint on the interweb!

Failing the above, anywhere pretty within about 2hrs drive of Manchester but ideally near the coast as want to take Henri on the beach whilst we're there.

Camping not an option as meant to be a cosy spontaneous romantic break in the hope of mending my previously wrecked relationship of 7yrs (we're working on it!) plus there's nowhere to plug my straighteners in

Just quick thought, as off to bed, but is camping an option?

I too am skint, and have 2 weeks off in Aug, nothing booked (am looking into it!), but have a tent and a car (as well as a child and a dog), and we are just planning an adventure down south - I don't like driving too far in one go, but am aiming for a few days in the new forest, and if I feel brave, all the way down to cornwall!

To my mind the worst that can happen is we put the seats back and sleep in the car! No biggie! I'm not planning to run out of petrol - that would be bad!
