I've recently got a pair of rescue bunnies and they eat tonnes of grass and hay! unlike my old rabbit who never touched either! I've had them since Thursday and have already had to move hutch and run

Re: Rabbits and grass

My piglets eat the runs area of grass every day! Like little lawn mowers! It's not growing back that well though with the weather being so dry, so having to water it a bit every day!

Re: Rabbits and grass

I get my chopped grass (Readigrass/JustGrass) from the local petfood/animal feed and horse feed suppliers

I'm in North London, so I go to a place near Harlow whose name escapes me at the moment, plus a Rare Breeds Farm in North Finchley. I hate to recommend them. but Jollyes also do it...

Hope you find some!

Re: Rabbits and grass

Does anyone know where I can get readigrass from?

Re: Rabbits and grass

I buy both bales of hay and bales of chopped dry grass (packaged up for horses)

Burgess Excel do 'posh' dry grass mixtures too...which are more expensive, but popular (try when NVS has promotional offers like during rabbit week)

I agree, don't go mad with the wet food(grass, veggies etc): they'll get the runs if you're not careful, not something you want, esp in summer. We've all dug maggots out of bottoms haven't we?

Lots and lots of dry hay and grass is much better....

Re: Rabbits and grass

i got some soluble lawn feed the other day where you dissolve 4 scoops in 9 litres. is this the right stuff? total grass and plant growing noob! In spring to autumn, you'll be surprised how quick it grows! (Water it in dry spells though.) As long as you are restricting them to a run, and moving it before they actually kill the grass, you should be fine for the summer. In Winter, however, you'll have to restrict them to one area and feed hay or you'll have no lawn by next year....

Re: Rabbits and grass

ok i'll watch out for that. Not sure how often they were on grass at the rescue place. They are little hay monsters too! It's good but i'm really not used to it :p

Re: Rabbits and grass

Hiya!! I have two very grass hungry bunnies! Unfortunately due to weather we are having grass won't be growing very much, so it may not take them long to munch through it!! Replacing with hay is good, and watch that they dont get diarrhoea if they have not been used to going on grass before - it can be a bit of a novelty!!
