Question what do you do with an over eager doggy, I would be frightened that he would eat it, or think him playing in his ball is a toy, I suppose the only thing I could do is lock him out the room. I want one!

Look at how full her cheeks are in this one! I used to hide food in the toy for her to find. I gave up with a food bowl cos she just emptied it into her bed. Instead i scatter fed.

Hehe! She was a real explorer! At night i used to shut the door so she couldn't get out of the room and leave her cage open...she loved it! I'd wake up with a hamster running across my face! Then she'd take herself back to bed when she got tired!

Glad to hear he's doing well! Pets at home have some good cages in at the moment for around £30, nest box, wheel, water dropper, food bowl and an extra level included.

Great thanks guys....what a difference in Snoopy tonight!!!! I should call him Speedy now!!! Hes going round the lounge at super fast speed!!!!! I have had him in a temporary little rabbit hutch to rest him but I need to treat him to a super duper hamster cage now as hes getting his head through the bars.....climbing up the bars.......biting the bars.......hes sooooo cute......glad hes recovering from his ordeal......

Unsalted boiled rice usually goes down a treat too. I used to give a little scoop to my Russian Dwarf colony (12 hamster group :D) about once a week (jam jar lids make useful dishes as do little glass rammikins) and they loved it ^_^

Dog biscuits are good: usually you would use them to wear down their teeth.

Trill good too!

Dry chicken (Thrive) ok once a week...

Any nuts (unsalted)

Hey thanks for all your advice Snoopy is doing well my partner has so fallen for him!!!!! LOL 6ft bloke in love with a hamster....he thinks hes sooooo cute....will get pics on here soon.......definately getting better each day on his legs.......settling in at home now and eating.......hes great So I now have 2 ferrets, 2 degus, a hamster AND today I acquired 2 chinchillas!!!!!!! Its great oh yeh and of course a gorgeous staffie!!!!!

Thats great! I have loads of hamster at home and feed em all kinds of things. Hpoefully this list will help:

dog biscuits, apple, pear, banana, tomato, carrot, swede, dandelions, chickweed, groundsel, stale toast, boiled egg, milk powder or cooked meat.

I recommend feeding these as treats once a week as too much can lead to diarrhoea and upset stomachs.

As for the splayed legs, could an injury from his bid for freedom. They are hardy wee creatures though so he should adapt.

Oh! My ones love home made fruit smoothie. Avoid natural yog and use water instead.

Well Snoopy made it through the night though doesnt seem to have eaten anything yet despite me offering various yummy tempting bits!!! vet looked at him again today he has deep pain/propriception in one of the feet......he has been asleep most of the day as hamsters do!!!! I might see if the vet will let me take a piccie tomorrow........he is sooooo cute.....got some supreme hamster biscuits today at work.....they are heart shaped!!!!!! But hasnt touched them yet

Poor hamster, hope he's okay. Feeding wise they really do eat anything, mine have hamster mix and occasional pieces of boiled egg/pasta (especially when young) and fruit/veg.

Has he had xrays? Splaying or inability to walk on hind legs can occur if they have been dropped or fallen but as he's been wandering around the streets would be worth doing one to check.

You can feed them just about anything really. Mine used to love the odd dog biscuit, they can eat meat in small quantities apparently.

Obviously commercial hamster mixes have balanced vitamins & minerals in them.

Be careful not to give him too much fruit though incase it gives him wet tail!

Crikey just been on a website about hamsters didnt know they can eat grapes, carrots, sweetcorn, banana, strawberries, etc!!!!!! Such a small animal can eat loads!!!! Just been jumpping round kitchen cos Snoopy eating a grape!!!!!!
