Word back from RCVS. Because of the ambiguous wording of "do blood tests" this could mean simply running blood samples, not taking them. The 6m thing for GA's is a bit thin ice, as the RCVS SQP is not set in any time frame.

Therefore Professional Conduct are very pleased to be told about these things and to provide advice to anyone writing adverts, but cannot act on this advert.

The article was by HR professionals and they were disgusted that VN jobs were advertised with mentioning chocolate biscuits, but no hours/salary/place of work/responsibilities etc which are expected as the norm in job ads. Vet ads didn't get off much more lightly, and I think a few people woke up to how much they were paying in these publications and got better. . .

However the web is a dark, dank, cheaper place breeding many things. . . I think if we all accept your challenge we could all find 1 illegal (qual or experienced) type advert this month and several more trainee/qual/sole charge type ones.

No offense to Steph, and other unq's but the law is the law and advertising for 6m experienced people to take bloods is ridiculous. Most can't even handle a cat well enough by then (well, some can) but allegedly I am a tough nurse to please and scare some people (got told this yesterday!). . . but the animal gets good care, and staff get well trained and appreciated.

Hope to use this to stipulate the updated VSA means EVERY practice must employ an RVN. . . then better pay will arrive, and better training and support for the other roles in practices.

Thanks Beth! I used to be able to do it, but can't remember the Fkey!

Mrs mac, I am scared too, especially the BT's and anaesthesia, but thanks to RCVS wording any "suitably qualified person" can monitor a GA, so can't get them legally in that front, but surely even the RCVS would admit 6m in practice is not "suitably qualified" for GA's.

[/quote]

I would of thought a 'Suitably qualified person' would be someone thats been in practice a number of years.. like 2 years plus?? I'm not qualified, and I've been working in practice for nealry 10 years now.. so maybe that advert applies to people like me?? although, 6m is a joke.. there is no way someone working 6m in the veterinary field would be confident in monitoring a GA & do bloods.. let alone allowed too..

Re: Can ads like these be made illegal, please??

Its no problem, these adverts make me just as angry!
