Once had my hand bag stolen from our unit (many years ago when we had the vid. production. B*&%^$%*) went into our home but there was nothing there to steal but our phone (the original mobile phone brick) We knew they would hit the unit that night with all the gear in.

The police arranged patrols to be nearby and brefied all their minons, we slept in the unit and hid the car inside. Sure enough at about 2am they crused past and we were ready. They wrenched the door up on the garage section to get in we turned the camra on to record but in the rush it did not turn on right, hub was trying to get control to alert patrols talk about incompitent who are you? where are you and there is what... (&**&(&*^^& people ON THE PREMISIS by now the burglars got wind we were there and legged it. Police turned up absolutly furious with their control.

The scumm were caught by passing off 4 of my cheques and when the phone was found the numbers went to known fences oh l do not think they were to popular with them.

Just another update, they found some more of my stuff on the roof of the school this morning, so the only things I am now missing are my handbag itself, cash from the purse, tesco card, and the cover for my mobile phone. My friend is still missing keys - house and car, cash and some personal belongings. I surpose I was lucky but i does make me reavaulate what i carry around with me.

WARNING:Do not carry your life around in your hand bag and make sure you have a duplicate of any diary or address book at home. Keep record of credit/ debit cards and bank account details and belong to a protection agency and carry their number seperate! and leave a bit of cash or a spare credit/debit card at home that you can live on if your hand bag is stolen while waiting for replacements.

Doing the above is easier said than done but buying a smaller handbag I am sure will help me. I do not want to frighten anyone but please do learn from my experience.

helen that is so horrible what happened to you! you poor thing! my life is in my handbag i think i would be completely lost if it got stolen! so glad you got it back!

Hi All,

Just an update. Had a phone call from the police, a lady found my purses, credit cards, mobile phone and spare car key in her garden this morning and I have now picked them up. and my friends car has been recovered together with her purse and mobile phone but not her home or car keys.

Only cash!! handbag, cheque book, diary and address book still missing.

I am a member of sentinal which also will cancel all your cards etc but do make sure when you receive a new/replacement card that the numbers are still the same.

Thanks, will have a look at it tonight. £70 for 3 years is almost nothing really, compared to the time and effort it would take, plus costs in phoning all the places to cancel your cards/etc.

I have all my cards & phone stored wtih CPP, and when I lost my purse, it was just one phonecall to them & they cancelled everything & set about getting new ones issued. They even arranged a new bank card to be couriered to my door the following day. They also issued me with key fobs, & can arrange a lock smith for you, if you need it. They will contact your phone provider if your phone goes missing too! They also have an insurance policy for ID theft.

It does cost some money, for OH & I it is about £70 every 3 years but if something is stolen, then the banks will only refund money from you have contacted them, so if it takes you 3 hours to get round your banks or credit cards, you could be liable for money taken up til that point. With CPP it's when you lodge the call with them.

Gillian, Thanks for the offer, I am feeling a bit better today now i have rung everyone ( credit cards, bank, insurance, libraries) and my friends from diving have rung me again. Thank goodness for the business at least i can get some money!

I have learnt my lesson only carry as little around with you as possible, and leave the rest at home in a safe! SMALL handbag in future!

Hopefully the following will make you feel a bit better:

A few years ago my wife and one of her friends were mugged in front of their work. The thief grabbed my wife's handbag and ran off. She ran off after him, caught him. tripped him, kicked him, accidentally breaking his ankle, and got her handbag back. Her friend told me my wife apparently told the would-be thief "You dont steal my smokes from me!" lol

The police were impressed and the guy looked very subdued in court when the judge had a good old giggle in court about the whole woman "un-mugging" herself.

Hope you get all your stuff cancelled and a brand new handbag to replace your old one :)

That's horrible! I had my bag stolen years ago from the staff room at work and it had keys in plus a bill whith my home address on the envelope so we had to get the keys/alarm codes etc changed. It scared me stiff as I was convinced that they would try and get into the house for ages afterwards, even though I knew they couldn't by then. Hope you're ok and not too shaken up. It's an swful feeling when something like that happens.

Helen, I am gutted for you. You have enough to deal with already!

Hope you have some good friends around to support you - but if you want some company we could go out for a drink/pizza/moan (I'll pay seeing as you don't have any cards!!!!!) - you know where I am. Or if going out isn't an option with the business we can sort out something else. But don't be alone!

They did not take my house keys they weere in my jacket. I need the credit card as you have to pay for a replacement driving licence per thier website!!!

My friend also had her keys taken, and while she was talking to the police on the telephone the thieves came back and stole her car as well[:'(]

I klnow I was lucky that they did not like the look of my old scruffy jacket

aw Helen, I am very upset to hear that Its absolutely terrible. Make sure you CANCEL EVERYTHING. Why do you need a credit card to replace your driving license? Obviously, if it has been stolen, they should issue you with a new one? Not wanting to scare you, did you have any keys ie home in your bag? If you did, please get the locks changed immediately. Terrible thing to happen. Am thinking of you xoxo
