That's what NVS told me today too!

They are expecting another order at the end of the week, but they don't know how much they'll be getting - fingers crossed they get enough to send us our back orders!

i actually dont think we had any problem getting any through dunlops, not 100% sure but always seen it round in theatre. we also got some delivered today from dunlops i saw this come in with my own 2 eyes

Hiya,

Just to throw a spanner in the works even more.....one of my collegues says she spoke to the VMD and they wont cover anyone using Lignocaine inj as a local for intubation as its not licensed for this use........help......we like a lot of people have almost none left :(((

Hi, can I ask what dilution you are using and with what? Also is a trade local ok to use eg locaine or lignol or do you need to get straight lidocaine. Need to be prepared as intubeaze on the dregs!!

I think the general feeling is that xylocaine shouldn't be used due to a report of it causing laryngeal oedema in cats (back in 1992, i think!) although its all we used to use years ago (before intubeaze) and we had no problems with it! We are diluting 2% lidocaine in a 1ml syringe and applying a drop either side via a soft catheter before intubating cats and discarding the mix at the end of the day.

So do you think transfering the xylocaine to the intubeaze bottle is OK? Surely it would just mean that we are getting a measured pump instead of using the xylocaine pump which delivers more per pump.

yes, its all we used to use too and never had any problems either, long before intubeaze appeared on the scene! but since intubeaze has vanished off the face of the earth, no-one wants to touch xylocaine with a barge pole!...very frustrating when you have had so much experience with it with no negative side effects but can't be negligent either with the article about it poss causing laryngeal oedema in cats!?! aargh! We are now diluting lidocaine and applying one drop either side before intubating.

Sorry another question... How is everyone administering the non-intubeaze stuff then?? We've tried decanting the xylocaine spray into an intubeaze bottle so we get the correct measure but it's not been sucessful. Any other suggestions?

So effectively cats are being overdosed if you have a vet or nurse who is too over-enthusiastic with sprays and do a 3-4 squirt per cat 'just to make sure'.

I dont understand it either - maybe intubeaze has a different carrier to the ethanol/methanol in xylocaine? or maybe its down to licensed and non licensed products again? or maybe ? I do recall that the xylocaine spray used to have a much longer slender nozzle (depending on supplier this could sometimes be metal) but it was hardly brain surgery to shorten the nozzle and slide a piece of tight fitting tubing over it to the required length to prevent any damage from sharp edges but maybe the longer nozzle caused the problem?. As I say we never encountered any problems with xylocaine all the time we used it (a considerable number of years).

Yep it is the same. I was under the impression that lidocaine in high doses (i.e above the squirt we would use in cats) is above the recommended dose but xylocaine is lidocaine isn't it?
