Does your practice put up its fees? Annually? Biannually? That will be in line with inflation - as should be the case. Unless your boss gives you a payrise annually, at least in line with inflation, then he will make more profit year on year.......(assuming the practice isn't struggling). In other words, he will be getting a payrise but noone else! Admittedly inflation this year was low (about 2%) but you should be getting that at the least.

If the fees go up every year, so should your income. Otherwise, you are effectively getting a pay drop!

I have every sympathy - obviously can't complain about the wages I was on, compared to nurses, but saw only 2 pay rises in the 5 years I worked for a practice. And that was better than the nurses saw.

Without a union both vets and VNs are at the liberty of their boss. But a good time to mention it would be at the same time as a fees increase...they will struggle to justify not giving you a rise!!!!

Re: Pay rise/cost of living increase

Hi Katy

Ive moved practices 2 years ago and so far have had a pay rise each year, but this is with a big company.

The practice prior to this one was awful re pay rise and it was actually stated in our contract that annual pay rise were at the partners discretion so hence hardly ever happened unless you took on a stupid amount of extra work!

The one before that we used to get at the very least the cost of inflation as our pay rise so would only be a few pence- but all helped!

Its very much an individual practice thing- but possibly the bigger the company, the more chance of getting one??

nicky
