Im currently near the end of my first year of the NVQ level 2 (with exams in 3 weeks!!) and i have to transfer onto the new diploma vet nursing, which is the level 3 part of the course... As i am transferin onto this course, im only having to do a transitional course, so another year and a half rather than 2 years. (As the whole diploma is a 3 year part time course). This means i wont have to do some of the course units as they would have been covered on my NVQ level 2.

So i will be one of the many students who will pass with a diploma rather than an NVQ.

I thought that would be pretty weird, for new students to get the diploma! I want to do the advanced diploma but can't start the course until September 2011! Need to be registered for a year, and I was only registered in Feb

We had a briefing on the new course structure and there was absolutely no mention of students getting the DipAVN.

the new course is definitely classed as level 3, with one level 4 unit on professional registration etc.

your student will get the standard red badge, without a doubt.

it is unfortunate that it is called a diploma in veterinary nursing, as this causes confusion,

the blue badge holders have advanced diplomas in veterinary nursing which as nick says is a higher grade probably level 4-5 (level 6 is a full degree)

there is going to be new post vn qualification specialist courses up to level 6 (i won't be holding my breath for these though)

Hi,

I am starting the new Diploma (full time) in September, and it doesn't qualify us with the Dip AVN. I assume that this is the same for all students doing the new Diploma.

The new VN diploma is a equal to level 3 which is classed as further education. Your SVN will get the red VN badge that us who did NVQ or BSc, FdSc, or green book......

The Dip AVN is classed as Higher Education and is pitched a lot higher than level 3. hope this clears things up for you.

i doubt they would, i bet someone has googled vet nurse diploma and found the dip avn badge and assumed they would get that one!

I'm pretty sure the red badge is staying for those qualifying via the diploma as it is equivalent to the NVQ route. The blue badge is for diploma in advanced veterinary nursing which is different so pretty sure they will keep different badges.

I don't see how that can be right. Not done the Dip AVN myself but it involves shed loads of work so don't think it would be included with the NVQ3 equivalent. I'm just guessing though.
