Just a little clarification needed. in 10.3 it says to monitor the animals recovery and bring any indications of problems to the attention of VS. One of the bold problems listed is inability to perform body functions.

after reading the scope etc, i havnt really done enough to cover much there. i did a big log on scrubbing up and theatre prep etc that i didnt cover enough of the nursing after to make it count so going to leave it for a case where i can knock it out all on one. got some rabbits in this week, and knowing our streak of bad luck none of them will be able to poo! lol

thanks anyway! :D

Re: 1.3 nursing care for animals recovering from surgery
Obviously I'm not an assessor, so can't be sure, but I would have thought if you get the wording right it should be ok. Something along the lines of mentioning to the vet you were worried he was unable to eat or defaecate as he wasn't recovered enough so you were worried about gut stasis? Or something like that...maybe...
I think that should be OK too, but obv I'm not an assessor either!

I have been taught that ideally those wee furry herbivores should be up and about and eating asap to prevent gut stasis, and also to maintain body temp. Maintaining normothermia is also a bodily function I reckon, and an anaesthatised pig wouldn't be able to do that for himself.

I think you should be able to cover it, but would adv talking to your assessor and or IV just to make sure.

Good luck!

Oh, and just out of nosyness, how come piggie took so long to come round?
