A lot of picking up poop, but I'm kind of immune to that now, and scattering raw carrots, onions, potatoes and nuts around the pens. I worked in the Charles Clore House and Moonlight World as well as doing a time in the Children's Zoo. Started before changes in rules came in (and as had experience when they changed the rules I was able to continue). So was able to clean out cages, wash windows, feed animals, set up an help design new cages as well as washing up and food preparations, I used to be brilliant at chopping up apples poatoes and other fruit and veg!!! Worked various animals including with marmosettes, red pandas, porcupines! kiwis, fenec foxes and fruit bats. I really enjoyed it, some of best memories are seeing the new born animals before the public, as keepers always knew what had been born each area and we went in our lunch hour to see, handling the red panda (I have a photo somewhere) and leading the ponies around the zoo and though the tunnels. It was always worth the 1.5 hours journey there and back and ofcourse the sauages and chips at lunch time!

Re: Keeper-For-The-Day

Haha!
Here's me in Sri Lanka:

I spent a month working with elephants whilst I was there. I helped out with the day-to-day care at the sanctuary and assisted on their mobile veterinary unit.

It was a fantastic experience which I continued when I got home. It's currently on hold at the moment, but I began to volunteer at a local zoo. I get to help out on whichever section tickles my fancy but elephants, hoofed stock and carnivores are definitely my favourites!
