Started sending CV's out before Christmas and only got one interview out of 15 practices. I feel your pain! I guess we can only keep trying and try to get as much experience in as many areas as possible in the meantime.

If I find any techniques or whatever that work I will let you know.

Re: what do i have to do to get a job in a vets

I have considered doing more w/e. I worked out how much I already have and it amounts to over 14 weeks of various experience, 5 weeks in vets, 3 weeks in a zoo, 2 weeks on farm, 2 weeks in wildlife rescue centre, 3 weeks at cat rehoming centre and am currently helping out at riding stable/horse rescue centre. I have considered relocating as the south east is short of jobs, however its the financial implications of moving, I just dont have finances available for deposits on flats and dont have family in a position to help.

Re: what do i have to do to get a job in a vets

Do you have a practice local to you that you could see about doing work experience? I know its difficult to do this regularly if you have a job etc but this really can put you in a good position for applying if they have future SVN positions as you will be known to them.

Unfortunately the number of potential SVNs always exceeds the positions available-whether the new training scheme will improve this situation, who knows? Send out on-spec CVs on a regular basis (every 2-3 months) as whoever deals with CVs will soon remember you. Even if you can't get current w/exp in practice, rescue centres will also be a good way of getting recent experience. Are you able to relocate?

Re: what do i have to do to get a job in a vets
just feel like giving in, i've had four interviews for either vet nurse assistant or trainee vet nurse and even though i've got experience of small and large animal, both in veterinary setting and elsewhere, I still haven't been given a chance
if you started a thread on here about people who aint got a training practice despite sending cvs and having exp, the amount of people who don't compared to those who have and do have a place, would be high!

I am afraid thats just the way it is unfortunately! Don't get too annoyed, just keep trying!!
