I think they tried to quote us higher too and we said we got a quote from another company which we did and they beat it x

Have you tried Sheila's Wheels? I was with Tesco's last year and they put the price up loads this year. But i think i saved about £100 with Sheila's Wheels. They also can offer cheap Green Flag membership too

my other half used to work within car ins comp. he warned me the price would start going up this yr. he said it was to do with economical money probs and the way the ins comp made bad choices a yr or so ago and lost lots of money and now need to make it back.

i am not looking forward to my renewal either esp as we dont get discounts now he left the company.

have you tried admiral? they do a multicar policy which significantly reduced both mine and my partner's insurance! (think we saved about £300 in total)

This year mine jumped from£330 to £640!! I too thought it was a misprint. I found quotes right up to £1200, some offered cheaper prices with a ridiculously high excess so watch for this when getting quotes!!

I have finally settled for NFU Mutual - you cant get quotes onine you need to go through a broker but could choose excess etc and most extras like legal cover etc already included in their price. It was so nice to talk to a real person - not a person in a call centre following a script too!!! Worth a try - look on their website to find your closest broker to phone. Have just swopped home cover to them too!

I always do price comparison a month before renewal to get quotes. Insurance companies lure you in with nice starting rates and then try to whack you for the renewal. most people can't be bothered to change so leave it making the insurance companies a profit.

I was with direct line and last year my fully comp insurance went from £260 to £740 on renewal. I'd had no claims and nothing had changed. I rang them an made sure it wasn't a misprint (it wasn't) they refused to lower it when i threatened I was going elsewhere- they said i wouldn't be able to get it much lower so i asked them (very politely!) to not renew when the date came round. Got new fully comp insurance for £240

Thats who I'm with now, always been the cheapest and never had any problems but just annoyed its gone up this year with no reason!
Thought cheaper car insurance was a perk of getting old

As for cashback sites - I have used quidco in the past, and done very well on it

A black Kia Rio.....it doesnt look sporty enough for me BUT it does save me alot of money.....as insurance cheap and low emissions so cheap road tax....it goes well though certianly not slow....before that I had a mini cooper s which i sold at right time as the tax on that now is £400+ as its very high emissions!!!!!!

Kias are great cars especially with the warranty on them......

Thanks for those suggestions, have tried comparethemarket.com and confused.com, quotes varied from £313 to £1150

Am willing to do lots of shopping around so will have a look on that one too. When I rang last year to say it was too much they sent me a £30 tesco voucher!

I would contact your insurance company and try get it down they usually do reduce it.

I am with Diamond and they have always been reasonable with me and goes down each year not up
