For OOD drugs we use got a de-nature kit.. we put all ood drugs in there, then when its full top up with water and shake!it sets like a horrible jelly! then the de-nature kit goes into the parmacutical bin.. I hate this de-nature kit.. there is so much paper work involved this way though.. like listing all the drugs in the pot, exp date, batch number and qty, then a note to summerleaze to say its in the pharm bin, then haz waste consignment note and collection request note! phewf!

So these green bins from dunlops.. is there much involved? can all waste like syringes, vials, empty bottles, and OOD drugs go in there? does it replace the yellow pharmacutical bin??

Hi... we put our syringes in cinical waste which is collected by our crem company every 2 wks but we put all returned and OOD drugs and glassware (vaccinne vials/ isi bottles/ all drug bottles etc) in our green DOOP bin... we tend to put opened vials... eg vetergesic/ metoclop / valium vials in yellow sharps bins with needles but there is no reason why they can't go in the green bin.

It cost around £90 including disposal but I think it's worth it for safety, legality and ease of use

I've just moved practice and I'm very confuddled by it all!! We are now not allowed to place syringes into clinical waste as they can penetrate the plastic bags, so we have a large bin for glass vials and syringes and one for sharps. Upon doing a bit of investigating today the large bin is a sharps bin! I need to phone the crem up tomorrow to clarify everything as the other staff seem very confused as to what to put in where!!
your not the only one who is confused - its taken me a while to get it straight myself so I am doing everything that is asked

why has everything been made so complicated. If everybody had all the combos of bags and sharps containers in every room there would be no where to work.

its unecessarily complicated and the chances are there are people putting stuff in the wrong place through lack of understanding not just because they cant be bothered with all the different stuff.

Dont like tiger bags that are disposed of in an alternative manner (landfill). instead of incinerating nearly everything we are now producing 2 sorts of waste, some of which will sit around for years and using 2 lots of waste bags - now that really is environmentally sound (not). Or is it just an excuse so some stuff can be disposed of more cheaply?

Re: disposing of meds

I've just moved practice and I'm very confuddled by it all!! We are now not allowed to place syringes into clinical waste as they can penetrate the plastic bags, so we have a large bin for glass vials and syringes and one for sharps. Upon doing a bit of investigating today the large bin is a sharps bin! I need to phone the crem up tomorrow to clarify everything as the other staff seem very confused as to what to put in where!!

Re: disposing of meds
