our old single phase xray machine has broken, it is scrap now. we are looking at digital
however i have isolated the power to the old

Re: Calling Nick! tube head question

ok...it's on!

i discussed it with my radiography engineer, he said that they do it all the time, they used to keep them mounted on a plinth as a neat ornament. he says he's never known one to implode.

i'll keep you posted

Re: Calling Nick! tube head question

oops..............ah well it was worth a try

Had a chat with one of the senior radiographers at work and she said they are really unsafe!!! Because its an evacuated glass envelope even though you have isolated the power it can implode on itself! She didn't really say what to do though. So prob best of speak to a radiography engineer to see if it can be made safe.

Re: Calling Nick! tube head question

lol

Re: Calling Nick! tube head question

Yeah that's what I as thinking, provided you isolated the power! No radiation can be produced, but your prob best getting advice from an engineer! These radiographers can't be trusted!

Re: Calling Nick! tube head question

cheers,

Andrew was a bit before my time.

i had tube head in my diploma practicals too, so it can't be dangerous, i suppose.

thanks for the reply, i'm just nosy and one of my 2nd yr svns got me started on it with her questions.

i was surprised to pour 5 litres of oil out of it though lol

Re: Calling Nick! tube head question

Awwwww Lovely old Joan!!! hehe

Did you work with Andrew Coughlan too????

TBH I don't know if it's safe or not??

Can ask one of the radiographers at work thou. I only work in CT and MRI. Provided your isolated the power don't see why it wouldn't be safe. When I went for my practicals in March am sure they had a tube head kicking around in the corner of the room!

Am in work tom so will ask about. Failing that maybe get in touch with the company that supplied your CR unit and am sure one of their engineers can answer your question.

Re: Calling Nick! tube head question

but should i work about anything else??
