Thanks. ive calmed down now and realised its not as bad as i 1st thought. had other things happening too so was also stressed coz of that. anyway, my practice wont pay for me to go but in a way its making me even more deterimed to pass. if anything its an excuse to go away for the weekend. I know almost everyone else is in the same position as me so just wanna say good luck to everyone taking their practicals this time round!!

I had to do mine in Glasgow, it was awful!! The stress of getting there is worse than the exams! All i can say is take something with u on the train to keep you occupied that ISNT revision. Dont get stressed with revision on the train it'll make things worse!! Make sure you know exactly where your goin from the train station and if in doubt just jump in a taxi!!

You'll be fine, just dont panick!!

I'm sitting my practicals for the third time in a couple of weeks, I'm in Scotland and got my first choice of centre (Barony, Dumfries) so feel quite lucky! Previously in March I sat at Myerscough as no Scotland venue and December last year went to Glasgow. All 3 exam letters I've had have mentioned oversubscription so this is maybe just a standard thing they put in the letters?

Anyway best of luck to all those sitting wherever you are placed!

Well I think I've been extremely lucky then! Mind you, you know it's the RCVS when they tell you to chose one centre out of five and send you to the sixth!! I live in Hertfordshire and chose Nottingham Trent (a good 2 hours plus away) but I'm going to Writtle College, near Chelmsford, Essex, a mere hour and a quarter or so away. I think they've had to open it because of the oversubscription. Getting really panicky now!

i was a green booker too, i lived in edinburgh, and had to go to myerscough for my practicals,

when i did my diploma i had to go to cambridge too

I'm going to Plumpton College near Brighton. (2.5 hours away) Luckliy a friend has a house there so we're going down the day before. My letter did say that the exams were over subscribed this year and apologised if people didn't get their first choice of exam centre.

I don't know yet where I am going - I am away at uni and my RCVS letters seem to get sent to various places so still trying to track it down (could be uni address, home address, college or work!!).

Just thought I'd point out to those suggesting train tickets are cheaper way in advance - the practicals are in 2 weeks time so doesn't really help price wise! That makes me sound ungrateful for the suggestion - which I'm really not - I just looked at the dates and realised how close they actually are!!

When I did my Diploma exams I had to go London for the writtens and then Bristol for the practicals....

I had no choice in the matter and just had to suck it up as it were......

Last year the diploma practicals were held at Myerscough, just down the road from where I live

Least if you go on the train you can sit on the train relax and do some revision. I went down the night before.

I am one of Kirsty's colleagues, and I think I got off lightly! I'm off to Shropshire for my pracs, the other SVN is down in Bristol I think?!!!

Not sure how our bosses would feel about standing the travelling costs - I don't think anyones asked them yet, but as far as I know, they know of the situation & haven't offered. Time yet though

Back in't day Hev - back in't day!!! Must admit I was really lucky to have my practicals and exams both in Scotland - I loved the venture down to Glasgow! I studied my backside off for my exams and even though I am a right stress bunny, I used the journey and the night staying over to chill and relax before the exam!!

However I do agree that it is quite expensive - but yeah, if you book far enough in advance the tickets should be cheaper. And definatley, your work should be paying for that as it IS part of your training!!! Goodluck xxx

Thats how it is for everyone! I live in scotland and many students are forced to travel down south (at least 6 hours) for their exams. I agree it must be really annoying, where did you put down as your first choice? They usually put you there if they can.

and technically your work should reimburse you for your travel costs as its part of your training and unavoidable (especially if they are paying for you to do the exams in the first place)

buy in adv for the train should save you a fair bit! Glasgow or Edinburgh??
