We looked at the window to find that the sky dish has been removed from the wall and the cables cut.

Re: Uninstalled Sky!

The issue was that the dish was on the property, seeing as the dish is now not on the property, what's the problem. As far as risking the tenancy, we are not bothered. We are looking at moving out in 6months or so as I will hopefully be changing practices.

Re: Uninstalled Sky!
is it worth risking your tenancy?
Why not? It's money she is throwing away each month not having Sky!! Meanwhile she can still try and reason with landlady!

I risk my tenancy by having 3 cats, its been 2 years and he still don't know!

good luck!

The letting agent ? unless it was stipulated in the letting agreement that sattelite tv was available I think you will be struggling!

Re: Uninstalled Sky!

Still without the dish.

We have been talking to the letting agent who has told us that the landlady gave one of the previous tenants permission to put the dish up on the provision that he removed it when he moved out. In the mean time we moved in and mentioned sky to the letting agent who showed us around the property and nothing was said about us not being able to use the dish and have our sky contract transferred to the property. The previous tenant moved out and left the dish up as we were using it.

The contractor who deals with the propery was being told by the letting agents to remove the dish but kept telling them that it was being removed. He was getting hasselled so removed it. We have since contacted the letting agents and have been told that the land lady does not want the dish put back up as it will cause damage to the property (although there is exposed holes in the wall already?)

We have spoken to the pub whose property is in front of the flat we are in and they have given us permission to put the dish either on their flat roof or on the wall.

The new problem is now trying to get the letting agent/landlady to cover the cost. We do not feel that we should cover the cost.

As for the suggestions about a set top box, we have bad terristal signal and are half way through a 12month contract with sky, it has been suggested that we get cable but it will actually cost us more to cancel the contract and take out a new contract with a cabel company.

Well we will see how the next week progresses.

Re: Uninstalled Sky!

if the dish was there before rsf moved in then the letting agency/owners may have figured it wasnt connected with the current tenant and they didnt need permission to remove - It would have been polite to have let the current tenants know what they were intending to do tho.

is the property in an area that forbids the installation of satellite dishes - I used to live in one. If you had a dish fitted you took the risk of a fine and having it removed and a bill for making good any damage to the building. If the property is in one of these areas it might be that the landlord has removed it to prevent being fined themselves? Maybe invest in a set top box?

I dont think there would be any point in replacing the dish unless you want to risk the same happening again. If the landlord doesnt want a dish they will just keep removing it and you will end up incurring more costs

Re: Uninstalled Sky!

Surley they can't do that without talking/letting you know first? After all you are paying a subscription for it, it is your property.

I would be having a serious rant to the letting agent/landlord and telling them how much it has cost you. Have you got a contract with sky? ours is a yearly contract and if we cancel it before the year is out we get a cancellation fee, which isnt cheap.

Re: Uninstalled Sky!

I think id be having a very angry rant at the letting agent/owner!!
