Securing payment for veterinary services
10. A client is the person who requests veterinary attention for an animal, for example when a veterinary surgeon is called to the scene of a road traffic accident by the police

Re: surely not?...

[quote user="katie newport"]

i knew a vet once who did a house visit for a known bad payer- he assured on the phone that he had the money to pay etc then when the vet went to the house they changed their minds!

so he took the tv! the client then went to te surgery to pay his bill and collect his tv!

i take it this was arranged between them tho as wouldn't it be theft without the owners consent? just interested as i might threaten this next time

Re: surely not?...

Love it Katie!!!

Re: surely not?...

i knew a vet once who did a house visit for a known bad payer- he assured on the phone that he had the money to pay etc then when the vet went to the house they changed their minds!

Holding an animal against unpaid fees

17. Although veterinary surgeons do have a right in law to hold an animal until outstanding fees are paid, the RCVS believes that it is not in the interests of the animal so to do, and can lead to the practice incurring additional costs which may not be recoverable. This right should therefore only be exercised in extreme cases and after discussion with the RCVS.

but it doesn't help matters really... they only get more aggrivated...
