thats my point! - we charge £40 for full advice , which they will pay for an emergency...what i was talking about where the clients who say 'my dog just ate a ... is it poisonous' etc.

Can't remember what we charge - got a figure of £28 in my head but might be totally wrong - for clients that don't come in we make sure they are happy with the cost before we phone, a vet will call them back with the info then we post out the invoice.

Our practice is asking for the clients to pay £19 for the phone call. What is everyone else charging?

sorry wasnt meaning to put your idea down harshly - but vpis do a good job and at least the info from them you know will be right. Having read some of the posts on another vpis thread I can see where some clients will baulk at the price with some of the markups that are apparently charged

why dont you just get the book published by the VPIS and only call them for those not in there? I agree with Sal in that I wouldnt necessarily be happy taking well meant info. Products come in different strengths and varieties and this can make a huge difference to outcome. Also the information may not be the most up to date. Also often the VPIS give treatment advice dependant on the animal etc. for example - we recommend them coming in for xyz and this would be our concern...... It is obviously the vets choice of treatment and this is obviously invaluable in the less common poisons. we call them all the time - last 2 was yeast ingestion and a type of patio cleaner on a cat!

this site is brilliant for sharing information but its worth remembering that not all the information shared on here is correct. I would hate for an animal to receive inappropriate treatment in what might be an emergency situation because the information supplied isnt what it should be
