We aren't going through an agency (although my friend will be once she's finished with us). Was just wondering what

Re: Locum question

One point worth mentioning is that if she joins an umbrella company she will be covered for public indemnity insurance too and some will work out their fees pro rata so she isn't paying them for what she isn't doing - hope that makes sense.

Re: Locum question

Okies I'll have a chat to her about it. All practices I've worked with have been happy to put me on the payroll, even for short stints. Its such a waste of money, and with this site and vetclick, its so unneccesary. I've found it's worked really well. Tell her to keep all her documents/pay slips etc if she does go S.E so the tax man doesn't come chasing!!

As for tax though your practice can put the nurse on the payroll for the 2 weeks she's there, some practices prefer to do this. Otherwise not much needs doing except by the locum to ensure she's keeping records to do her tax at the end of the year. Is she self employed anyway?
