One point worth mentioning is that if she joins an umbrella company she will be covered for public indemnity insurance too and some will work out their fees pro rata so she isn't paying them for what she isn't doing - hope that makes sense.

PLEASE try to convince her not to use agencies! All practices I've worked with have been happy to put me on the payroll, even for short stints. Its such a waste of money, and with this site and vetclick, its so unneccesary. I've found it's worked really well. T x

If she's only working til Sept it may be easier for her to see if practices will take her on as PAYE instead of setting up as self employed, or going thru an umbrella company. Tell her to keep all her documents/pay slips etc if she does go S.E so the tax man doesn't come chasing!!

She is only locumming until Sept as she is off to vet school then and is just locumming to make a bit of money. If I just tell her to make sure she keeps a note of everything that she is earning and see what happens from there. Thanks!

I think you can join an umbrella company separate from an agency though not 100%. As for tax though your practice can put the nurse on the payroll for the 2 weeks she's there, some practices prefer to do this. Otherwise not much needs doing except by the locum to ensure she's keeping records to do her tax at the end of the year. Is she self employed anyway?
