Really sorry to hear you're having a bad time, you're always so supportive and full of encouragement for everyone else on here.

My partner has had some financial difficulties in the past and, as mentioned by another member, spoke to the CCCS who helped alot. One of the first things he did was phone all companies who required payments from him and got them to suspend any payments for a few months whilst unemployed, surprisingly most companies were happy to help and he had few months off making payments to get settled in a job before resuming them. He opened a cash-card only bank account for any wages to go into so that he had control over his finances and his existing bank couldn't 'freeze' his money as he was always in his overdraft and they'd randomly stop his account without warning. I guess the moral of his story is that there are people out there to help and it's probably easier to get help than you might imagine. Good Luck!

really sorry to hear about your problems, all I can say is there is light at the end of the tunnel. I was in severe financial probs a few years ago when my darling ex left me homeless and in a large amount of debt, so obv had to find somewhere for me and the cats to live and sort out my debts. I approached a company and applied for an IVA which at first was declined so I spent 12 months with their sister firm on a debt management program and then re-applied for the IVA it was then accepted and I am now 18 months into it and am looking forward to 2012 when I will officially be debt free!!!

So thinking of you and having been there I know how hard it is xxx if you ever wanna chat just email or pm me!

That is awful for you and your family! I don't know anything about dealing with bankruptcy - I don't think they can force you to sell your home though (unless you/your partner secured any debts directly against the property). I know quite a few of the laws, etc regarding bankruptcy status changed in recent years so I would just echo Angie's advice - speak to the professionals. Other than that I guess keep following the frugal living thread and we'll all support each other as we learn cheaper ways to live.
