I did the Think Cat/Dog when Peter Neville from COAPE did courses with the Animal Care College (they still do equivalent ones). I'd love to do the COAPE diploma but have heard mixed views on it, plus its hugely expensive!

You can do a Foundation degree in dog training and I think behaviour is incorporated into it with Bishop Burton college and this is mainly distance learning.

Hey i did the think cat course about 3 years ago and loved it. Decided not to do the diploma due to wanting to try something else and also the price was a factor.

That's interesting Bouncyfi - my provisional plans are/were to do the entry course this september then the diploma next september. What don't you enjoy about it? Do you think it would have been different if you had done one of the other COAPE courses which allow you entry onto the diploma rather than the one which combines a bit of each?

I'll get in touch with the kennel club i think and see if they can tell me anything about any possible plans.

I am doing the entry course for the COAPE course but I won't be taking it further and doing the diploma, which was my original intention. Haven't really enjoyed this course although I love behaviour and hoped to move more into this field. Will be looking at other courses, but it is very difficult to find out what course is the best and there are rumours that Kennel Club & another body are looking into regulating behaviourist so maybe it will be best to wait to see what happens with that.

My Dad has offered to pay for me to do the COAPE diploma if that's what I really want to do ....but I know 2 people who have done it, one doesn't work as a behaviourist and says although it was really good to do he wouldn't do it again, and the other does work as a behaviourist and she wouldnt do it again, both say experience is the main thing and the cost of the diploma is stupid (one did it when it was much cheaper and the other didn't pay for it himself).

So, although the course content looks great, and I think it'd be a really good thing to do, i need to decide whether it's definitely the right route to take....hmmm.....

The best courses are the APBT and the one at Southampton uni.

With COAPE l trust Jenny T of here who has it but after talking to someone doing the southhampton uni one it is the only acredited APBT one l would never put a COAPE trainer forward to help unless l knew their history. But from what you said cost is a problem so l guess ABPT and southampton are out.

Would work not pay for the COAPE diploma or even part of it??? Would be worth it, cos you could top up to the full degree later on.....

I know several people who have either done the Diploma/degree route
