I know not everything works for all cats, but just wondering what you guys had experience with?

That the same as Pro-Kolin?
The vet didn't run bloods but said possible colitis and try the synulox, if that failed we'd look at doing tests.

As an aside, I saw my first suspected colitis faeces in practice yesterday, very mushy pooh that looked (but smelled nothing like when I was scooping it from the bag into the tube!) strawberry jam... So I wonder now having seen the big difference between the two if the diagnosis was correct, but it did clear with the antibiotics.

As I say, that was before I worked in practice- not at all meaning that I actually have a great deal of knowledge now (I am only on my 7th week!) but moreso that I am questioning more, have faith in my vet mentors etc.

Incidentally that kitty is going in for her vaccinations tomorrow. (hell of a day off... I'm taking five cats- or however many I can catch- in!)

Re: Feline colitis
Ohh ok! I was not working in practice at the time, I just know it worked- can you tell me why it's advised against?
I'm assuming your kitty had diarrhoea? Was there blood present?

Notes from Danielle Gunn Moore

Antibiotics are not indicated unless a specific bacterial agent had been identified or if there is identification of intestinal ulceration (ie haemorrhage), in which case antibiosis shuold be initiated in order to reduce the risk of septicaemia as a result of baterial translocation through the damaged mucosal barrier.

This is because treatment can promote bacterial resistance and a carrier state.

Re: Feline colitis

Ohh ok!
One of mine had this a couple of years ago and a course of synulox tablets cleared it up.
