I'll be pushing for that protocol now! Good to know that Sammy can have both bloods if he ever needs a transfusion. Sad that he can only give to a percentage of the dogs!

Yeah Nick, they are good - I went to a CPD talk @ Bicton College. Was very interesting. Although we had recently had an IMHA dog in and I used my dog - so most of the cross matching stuff I had already learned from that case, as my Sammy is DEA 1.1 +ve, and the sick dog was DEA 1.1 -ve - we didn't cross match with Sammy's blood, but when we were getting ready for the second transfusion and done the typing it made sense why the first transfusion didn't really help! So we went to the pet blood bank for some DEA 1.1 -ve packed red cells. The dog is now almost completely out of the woods - and I think at last check his PCV was 32%? Not 100% sure though...

We have used these guys in the past. Fast delivery! Have also had my kitty blood typed in case she ever needs a transfusion or needs to donate!

We dont give any incentives. The last donation we had to do was in an emergency and couldn't find our list! (Typical) bt our HN's dog had it done in the end. Was going to get some from my lab but she is a little too small. Think i may suggest the incentive idea to the bosses!

We give our clients dogs a free consultation and booster as a thanks. They are really pleased with that. I think they are just happy to help, so free con etc are a bonus!

our blood donors get food (think it is to the equivelent of £50) or if a staff animal it gets credited to our accounts till we need something.

we tend not to need canine blood donors as we always keep stocks of packed cells and ffp in from pet blood bank now, however there are occasional times we need whole blood or run out, then we try and use staff animals

feline blood donation has to be whole blood as there's no way of storing now so again it tends to be staff animals, however we do have 2 very kind ladies nearby who have multiple cats and are happy to bring one or 2 along when needed

If a dog donates at our practice, I think they get paid about 60 quid for it...it usually goes onto the dogs file as a credit.

It's mainly staff pets who do this at our work, and the staff pet gets this as well.The cost is put onto the pet receiving the donations file.

We dont do blood transfusions in my current practice. In my last practice we usually used a donor dog that the owner found or staff dogs.
