Lol, had one tonight about tablets, O phoned to complain had picked up the wrong tablets for her dog, last time they were tablets but this time they are capsules. I asked for a description, sounds like its just the tablet form so explained to her that its likely to be the same drug, but i am happy to check them for her. I also said (because she was adamant she wanted the right ones) that I would see if we had any in stock and change them for her. Oh no, I can't possibly get to you, its the weekend!!! So I asked, well, what would you like me to do? Can you phone the branch surgery and see if they have any of the "right" ones....well no, there won't be anyone there now. Why not she asks me? Well, it is the weekend

no i cant give u the exact time ur blocked cat goes home cos it needs to pee and no i dont kno when that will be. stop asking me its the 5th time already

Yep, I only do about 3 a month so its not as bad as the Animed night duties! Unfortunatelty I need to do them to make some extra cash.

yeah a slippery slope indeed... its based at my practice, so practice manager does ask around for shifts that still need covering... I had one thurs night, and had 2 stitch ups, got home and in bed at 1am and up again at 7am for work, never mind.... had a 3 hour afternooon snooze today and feel worse now, lol.

I do enjoy it most of the time, and i like to know which vet im working with before putting my name down for a shift. lol.

we had some one phone up last week, complaining that his cat's testicles appear to have grown back 6 months after neutering. It was explained that it was impossible for them to grow back, but best see anyway if he's noticed swelling of any kind. "NO THEY'VE DEFINATELY COME BACK BECAUSE THE CAT STILL BITES ME"!!!! I thought i was on the radio or something!

I had a client kicking off because her dogs nails where curling round and digging in it's pads, after all she had paid to get them cut in DECEMBER 2009!!!!

I know, i was working with the vet, it was about 10.30pm at night i think, and we had a little giggle afterwards about it. The client was horrified, not at the costs but at the fact that it was female, and then asked me if she would stop screaming, i said not until she spayed and, she was like... 'what? there expensive arent they, cats...' LOL

Had a lady call up today because her cat has gone missing, asked her to discribe him and she said he has an 'athletic build'. Ummmm i assumed she meant he was slender??? I was dying to ask her what time he can run 100m in! hehehe

That reminds me of the time I was on call on a Sunday, treating one of our in-patient. This is how the phone conversation went.......

Me: Veterinary emergencies, how can I help you??

Client: Well my cat has been stuck up a tree in my garden all morning

Me: Well is the cat injured???

Client: I don't think so. I'm just worried he'll be getting hungry and don't know what to do

Me: well we can only treat him if he is injured if you can bring him down to the surgery

Client: can you not me and get him down???

Me: No, we only deal with sick and injured patients, besides we don't have access to ladders to get him down

Client: Oh well what am I supposed to do then???

Me: well you can call the RSPCA who may have ladders, but your best bet is to call the fire services if you are concerned about the welfare of your cat as they are bound to have ladders that will reach your kitty

Client: Oh no I don't want to go bothering them on a Sunday........

ME: Right, well I'm actually in the middle of dealing with my inpatients. If you manage to get him down and he is ill or injured then call us back and we'll be happy to see him/treat him

Crazy lady!!!!!

had one last night on my emergency shift. Was about 9.30pm (ish) and had a dog under GA as we were doing a stitch up on a dog that had run into a door with a low handle on it like a kitchen cupboard i think and the handle had pierced through his leg just above the knee.... anyways, vet wa smidway through as i monitored and phone started ringing next to me, so quickly answered it to see if anything that could wait until surgery finished...

Me: ******* Emergency service, how can i help?
Client: Erm, yeah, theres a bird in my garden................(long pause)
Me: and??
Client: Well its flown into my garden and i never see birds in my garden. I cant get near it to see if its injured or not. what do i do? Can i phone the RSPCA helpline?
Me: Erm, why do you think its injured then if it had flown there? ....(etc etc went through usual questioning, and still couldnt get through to them so i said.....Look, i have a dog under anaesthetic here, i cannot collect the bird or do anything unless u can catch it, or just leave it be, its probably fine. heres the number for RSPCA if u still want it)

Dunno why, but they wound me up... what did they expect me to do about a bird that had flown into their garden? LOL.

had a call out last night for a teething puppy that was lethargic after a hectic puppy class... and my friend recently had a call about a dead moth at 2am! I do wonder sometimes...
